In the 1840’s, it was possible to buy a passage by boat from Solva direct to New York!
Tickets were £3 a head, but it could take up to 17 weeks travelling and the journey began down these steps from The Gribin to where the boat was moored.
It’s hairy enough negotiating these steps on a walk never mind lugging suitcases with all your worldly goods in!
