Visiting Skomer Island between April and June offers an incredible experience as the island comes alive with natural beauty and vibrant wildlife activity. Here are the key reasons why this period is ideal:

1. Puffins Begin Nesting:
April: Puffins start arriving on the island to breed, preparing burrows for their nests.
May to June: The puffins are in full swing, feeding their young and exhibiting charming behaviours that make them a favourite among visitors.

2. Other Bird Activity:
This period marks the height of the seabird breeding season, with thousands of guillemots, razorbills, and fulmars nesting on cliffs.
April is particularly great for spotting migrating birds as the island serves as a stopover for many species.

3. Spring Wildflowers
April: The first flush of wildflowers, like primroses, begins to blanket the island.
May to June: Skomer becomes a kaleidoscope of colour with carpets of bluebells and red campions creating breath-taking landscapes.

4. Marine Life
Grey seals can be seen basking on the island’s beaches or in surrounding waters.
Dolphins and porpoises are sometimes spotted on the boat trip to Skomer, adding excitement to the journey.
