A week ago today I received one of those messages across the table that as a MD you always dread. One of my team was suffering a serious medical event whilst with a colleague working on a customer’s site on the Isle of Man. A chain of events came into play that sadly every business should be prepared for.

Whilst the events on the ground were out of our control being so far away, we were able to get things moving with regards to informing family and making the appropriate arrangements to support all involved.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people and agencies that went into action to support our team member in distress and the subsequent events that played out over this past week.

The team at Ronaldsway Airport Fire and Rescue Service who provided immediate first aid response to my engineer on site whilst waiting for the prompt arrival of the local Ambulance Service, they provided life saving treatment before transferring the individual to Nobles Hospital in Douglas. To the excellent hospital staff who cared for him overnight before arranging for an Air Ambulance transfer to Liverpool.

To the tremendous team at Fly Wales in Haverfordwest who had an aircraft in the air within an hour to travel to Gloucester to collect and transfer the next of Kin to the Isle of Man to be with their partner at this very difficult time.

To the team at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital who performed there magic and to our friends at Littles Chauffeur Drive Glasgow who as always stepped up to the table to complete the route back to the team members home with their next of Kin.

We are extremely lucky as a business to have some great friends in business who always go above and beyond when needed to support us. To our new friends we welcome you to the team and look forward to working with you in the future in hopefully more relaxed circumstances.

Finally to my own team of staff who as always stepped up without question to support their colleague and family in there hour of need.

We will of course take our own learnings from this weeks events and look to see what we can do better when inevitably we will have to deal with a similar events in the future.

To everyone involved, you all made a difference, Thankyou.
