Our Roots
Blas y Tir was created by the lovely people here at Puffin Produce. Together we bring you the real taste of the land or ‘Blas y Tir’ as we say in Welsh. Puffin Produce evolved from the original Pembrokeshire Potato Marketing Group, a quality growers' co-operative formed during the 1970s. We remain true to our collective roots, majority-owned by our Welsh growers here in Pembrokeshire. Our commitment to Wales is strong, and not just because we think it's a great place to live. With our roots so deep in this countryside, we're proud to work sustainably with local farmers and farmland, preserving the beauty of our unique landscape and supporting the region's communities and wildlife. In 2011 we created our brand, Blas y Tir, to supply potatoes and other produce to shops all over Wales. From our award-winning Rudolph Potatoes, Estima Bakers and Maris Peer New Potatoes and across our range, our produce is as Welsh as the landscape it comes from. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, Pembrokeshire's mild coastal climate is perfect for growing Pembrokeshire Earlies. Our potatoes are harvested earlier than most other UK varieties, usually around the first week in May, so their arrival in the shops is a welcome sign of spring!
