Beautiful clouds yesterday evening on our shearwater trip. It was perfect conditions for seeing shearwaters, a little cloudy and swelly and we had stunning views of the shearwaters skimming the waves. #shearwater #manxshearwater #ramseyisland #pembrokeshire #pembrokeshirecoast #weatherfront
Risso's Dolphins spotted while out on our Grassholm trip yesterday!
What a week we've had, gorgeous weather and so many cetaceans spotted. Not to mention the thresher shark we managed to see twice.
As part of the National Whale & Dolphin Watch 2024 we're helping you guys get the best sighting by putting on more of our Grassholm & Celtic Deep trips - they've been a huge success so far!
Remember, you can sign up to log your sightings even iff you're not on a boat. Dolphins and Whales caught through your binoculars on the coast path still count to help towards gaining a better insight into the status and distribution of marine mammals.
Download the SeaWatcher App today 🐬☺️

Dolphins from our trip on Saturday - look at that beautiful blue water!!
We're keeping our fingers crossed for a sunny start to the Summer Holidays - don't forget to book your spaces on our trips to avoid disappointment.
We have availability all week, keep checking our stories for updates ☺️
Some puffin pair bonding, they mate for life so re affirming that bind with their mate throughout the breeding season is really important. #puffin #atlanticpuffin #skomerisland #bossdayoff #rowing #porthgainrowingclub #wildgorsemagazine
I can’t believe it’s that time of year already, the auks are starting to leave the islands.
This is a teeny tiny razorbill chick razorbill that has just left the ledge to embark on a life at sea that begins with a couple of months learning the ropes with Dad. It is about 3 weeks old and we were about 15 miles out when we saw it. It can’t fly yet so will have swum offshore from its breeding ledge. Though still tiny, they are so much safer out at sea away from the shore based predators than they are on the breeding ledges with avian predators like gulls and ravens on patrol.
What a beautifully calm and glassy day out at sea yesterday - even better for spotting these excitable baby dolphins.
They're so small they breach right out of the water - video captured by our amazing crew member Sophie.
Join us on our Grassholm & Celtic Deep trip tomorrow or Sunday at 9:30am - we have 4 spaces available tomorrow and 6 for Sunday.
Call to book or check out the link in our bio 🐬
Looking forward to getting back out to Grassholm so see how our gannets are doing! In fact we’re looking forward to getting back on the water full stop having been grounded for few days due to the weather.. #readyforspring #Grassholm #gannets
Some King Penguins on South Georgia to cheer you up if you’ve looked at the forecast for the next week! 💨🌊 #kingpenguins #SouthGeorgia #springofdeception #Easter #stormyweather
This footage is of Orca in the Puget Sound hunting a common seal!
Ffion is taking advantage of the quiet season to take a bit of a busman’s holiday visiting friends in Seattle.
These Orca are the Transient or Biggs ecotype and specialise in eating marine mammals like seals, sealions and porpoise.

A light in the darkness on the winter solstice.
“Darkness reigns at the foot of the lighthouse.” – Japanese proverb
This is the Smalls Lighthouse at dusk as the light starts to shine.
As it is the shortest day it seemed appropriate to share this video I filmed on a private charter last month with @bluesharkuk for Carl and Tone who are making a film about Welsh lighthouses.
Looking forward to the return of the light as we climb slowly out of winter.

Love this so much.

Grey Phalarope seen on one of our Ramsey trips this weekend! A rare treat to see, they are sometimes seen in UK after storms.
These little birds eat plankton and small fish found at the surface, and parasitic lice pecked from the skin of whales (nzbirdsonline.org.nz)

Some footage I took of the Gannet colony on the isolated island of Grassholm a few weeks ago. There are believed to be around 16,000 pairs in the colony this year which, whilst amazing to see, is sadly a dramatic reduction on the norm of 39,000 due to Avian Flu (yet another reason we need to prioritise reducing the threats seabirds face, from diseases to climate change to ocean plastic pollution). I feel very privileged to have seen these spectacular birds up close. Thanks to falcon_boats

Aaah...look at this cutie seen locally near here. He's super cute and he is healthy even though he is alone. It's not unusual to see a seal pup by itself this time of year. Seal mums leave their pups very early on in life when they're weaned at three to four weeks old. But in the coming storms you may see pups alone that don't look so healthy and you can usually tell that by their weight. This one is fat and happy but a thin scrawny looking one maybe less so. Baby seals can be separated from their mothers by storms, and others may not feed properly for some reason and need help. An easy way to tell if they need help is:
A healthy seal pup looks like a big, stuffed maggot without a neck.
An unhealthy seal pup looks thin (but not bony) and has a visible neck, like a dog.
If you see one that you are unsure about then maybe just monitor it from a distance for 24 hours to see if mum is still about. Keep your dogs on a lead and do not encourage it back into the sea as they can't swim well yet. Please have a look at the following links below. If you come across a specific animal in distress please give The Well Marine Life Rescue a call or better yet WhatsApp them a picture of the animal 07970285086. They can advise over the phone and where necessary come out to check and rescue the animal. Thanks guys and happy storm watching tomorrow! There may be some big waves coming our way ! Any good photos will be much appreciated and the best one may even get a little prize !
