Great advice here about the beach 😃👍

You do it when you cross the road, now do it when you visit water…
STOP, LOOK, LISTEN
It could be the beach or inland waterway or pool… any water!

STOP- Take a moment to understand your environment check tides, water movement, weather, temp
LOOK- Look for any dangers, read signage. ALWAYS watch children
LISTEN- Talk to locals, lifeguards, other water users. Ask for advice
FLOAT- if you get into trouble, DON’T PANIC, float on your back. This gives you time for your body to acclimatise to the water temp and thinking time to understand how to get out.

Wow humpback whale in the bay! ❤️🐳

Reports of a Humpback whale in the bay this afternoon by our on duty watchkeeper Mike S, unfortunately he only had his phone so was only able to get a picture of the whale-watchers by the NCI Station during Friday C Watch.

A humpback whale appeared in front of the station around 2.40pm and was around for more than half an hour, breaking the surface a number of times.

Thinking of paddleboarding?

Whether you’re a complete beginner or more experienced, it’s always useful to know a few tips to help improve your paddleboarding experience:

1. Wear a suitable buoyancy aid or personal flotation device.

2. Take a phone in a waterproof pouch.

3. Wear an appropriate leash.

4. Avoid offshore winds

Install the free apps - what3words or OS Locate - to your phone – You will be able to give the emergency services your exact location in an emergency
And remember, having a few lessons before heading out can teach you the right technique, so it’s more stand-up and less fall-in paddleboarding!

If you get into trouble at the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
