The view out of the bedroom window this morning 😍. The hills are often filled with sheep but now we have a herd of cows which are a welcome sight. 🐮. They aren’t sitting down so hopefully that’s a good sign today!

The cows who think they are sheep…
When you walk down the road, take a deep breath, and nothing else matters. That. 🥰
Not a bad choice for your final resting place… 😀. Our village cemetery is packed with centuries of family history - and its residents have a cracking view across Hebden Dale valley. 🥰

Relax, rejuvenate, re-charge. You deserve it.
The Hideaway is a cosy holiday cottage near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Set in an area of outstanding beauty next to the Pennine Way, it's a walkers paradise.
Dogs are family.
And the reason we have been so quiet on Facebook is because a member of OUR family became seriously ill in November last year.
Our indefatigable, and (so we believed) indestructible Coco, was diagnosed with cancer. And not just any old cancer. Something rare, difficult to detect, and tricky to diagnose.
‘Roller-coaster’ doesn’t begin to describe our journey over the past three months.
At one point we were hours away from losing her with sepsis consuming her little body. After three days in intensive care, piles of intravenous antibiotics, several blood tests and scans she was deemed just about fit enough for an operation.
But, of course, not just any operation. Open chest surgery was required to remove a huge thymoma. Coco’s oncologist believed this would resolve her issues, as most of the time the cancer is contained within this type of lump. And this was why we agreed to the op. Everyone believed that this could give her a real shot at recovery.
The operation went well, but blood tests taken during surgery revealed the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. The surgeon did her best to remove the affected nodes but there was one near her heart which she couldn’t safely remove.
It was a huge blow. We had hoped against hope that the cancer was contained.
A week later we brought Coco home from hospital. Seeing her in such a weakened and frail state was heart breaking. And then all we could do was wait. A huge bag of drugs, a wound cleaning regime, and round the clock care was the order the day for the next couple of weeks.
She survived through Christmas. And each day became a beautiful bonus.
In early January we went back for more blood tests.
Our vet gave us the news that her bloods were in a parlous state, and all we could do was up the steroid dose. And I guess we both knew we were putting off the inevitable.
“How long do you think she has?” We asked.
It was probably an unfair question. The vet was reluctant to answer, but we just needed an idea of when to prepare for the worst.
“One month”.
Paula is a big believer in manifestation. And so, we did the only thing we could, began willing for her to stay with us a little longer.
In mid-January we went back to the vets. Her clinical signs had normalised, and her bloods improved dramatically.
There is no explanation for her sudden change in health, but whatever has happened we are grateful for.
Almost three months after her operation and Coco is back to shouting for her food, and demanding cuddles.
We have no idea how much longer she has, but every day is special (although, we are going to have to slow down on the treats because she is piling the pounds back on…..!).
Now our little Hideaway mascot is stable we can get back to something approaching business as usual. Especially as the lambs are starting to appear!
Thank you for reading all this. And if you have a special pet in your family, give them a cuddle from us!

Spring is coming.... and it's a magical time to be at The Hideaway. We are surrounded by sheep and that means one thing in March and April. Lambs! Lots and lots of lambs. There is something magical about hearing the valley reverberate with the sound of Ewes calling their lambs. If you are paying us a visit in March/April you are in for a treat 🥰

Peeking down onto The Hideaway from the Pennine Way is always a special moment. And it’s not just special the first time, that moment is just as special the fiftieth time. Experiencing the vast swell of landscape is a whole body experience. In difficult and stressful times the hills wrap their arms around you, filling your being with that unique, fresh tonic of Yorkshireness. And that is why we love this place so much….❤️
Drive with us through stunning landscapes with a fabulous pub at the end. The Packhorse Inn re-opened recently, and is now one of our firm favourites. 🥰 Great beer, great food, great views. What could be better. Our journey starts from The Hideaway.... (in real time it's just 6 minutes). PS We still have a few days left in September if you fancy paying us a visit.... 🙏🔥 Click here to book 👉 https://bit.ly/3bVrXYz
The garden at The Hideaway has popped into colour 😍 (including the large Foxglove interloper often found lining the lanes and fields at this time of year). We believe in creating a relaxing holiday experience both inside and outside our little 18th century cottage! 🥰 Come and sit, smell the roses and sweet peas, and if they are ready even pick a beetroot for tea. What else could you need for a peaceful and rejuvenating holiday? Ready to relax? 😊 👉👉👉 https://bit.ly/3bVrXYz

Peace, perfect peace (well, apart from the occasional sound of sheep chatter). Drinking in the view at the bottom of The HIdeaway’s garden is a so therapeutic ! 🙏❤️
🐥 CUTE ALERT! 🐥 One of the runner ducks next door had babies 😍. We are so lucky to be surrounded by wildlife and farm animals straight outside the back door. Whether it’s the ducks going on a daily field trip or the sheep living their best lives, come and watch it all whilst having a cup of tea on the patio! 🤣
It’s the start of the annual Hebden Bridge duck race! (Watch with sound on for excited child noises 😍). PS We had a cancellation in May. So if you fancy a break in this beautiful part of the world send us a message 😎
