The subject will be by Tony Porter and the subject will be 'The Up and Downs of Horse Racing in and around Hedon'. The Two Nicks at Fort Paull are doing a fantastic job of bringing the fort back to life after a period of neglect. Lucy Brooke, who is part of both Fort Paull and Hedon History Walks, is giving the Hedon History Walk talk this Thursday and will give the other side to the history of the Fort. Not the guns and mines but everything else that went on at the Fort. Always extremely well researched come along to the Hedon British Legion on Magdalen Gate at 7 pm on Thursday 29th May. Support the Legion and get an insight into the resurrection of the Fort. £5 on the night.

Our latest talk will be at the Hedon British Legion on Magdalen Gate on Thursday 29th May, starting at 7pm. This month the talk is by Lucy Brook on a subject she is very close to;

Fort Paull: from Beacons to Barracks
In this month’s talk, Lucy will be looking at the early and social history of the Humber defences at Paull. She is one of the volunteers there and is particularly interested in its archive material. We’ll discuss everything from medieval beacons and the reigns of Henry VIII and Charles I, to the rowdy Regency militias, the tea parties of the Edwardian era and the New Age travellers of the 20th century. Please note — this is not about the military history of the fort, so if you’re a fan of gun facts this perhaps isn’t one for you!
Thursday May 29th, 7pm at Hedon Royal British Legion
£5 payable on the night

Just a reminder about Thursday May 1st. No, not the elections but the Hedon History Walk talk! Tomorrow evening's Hedon History Talk brings women centre stage for International Women's Month and Mrs. Day. Lucy Brooke will be looking at women's lives in Hedon and Holderness from the medieval period into the 1900's; love and marriage, employment, health and social issues. Please note, this talk contains some graphic material (still birth and infanticide) so Lucy thought it would be best to flag this up.
To hear about the 'good old days' come along to the Hedon British Legion on Magdalen Gate at 7pm on Thursday 27th March. £5 on the door.
