Heritage Open Days is over for another year. I would like to thank the many volunteers who opened their buildings and met with and talked about them to the visitors. I would also like to thank the Community Theatre group and the May Geslins and their singers for all the hard work researching writing and producing the concerts they performed. The magnificent East Riding of Yorkshire Band gave a brilliant concert on Friday. The Hull Barbershop Harmony Club were also superb. I would like to thank the sponsors, Hedon Town Council, Yorkshire Energy Park and Hedon Museum as without them the week would not have happened, or at least would not have been free to all.
Mostly I would like to thanks all those that came along to any of the events over the week. The whole idea is to make people more aware of out town and take prided in living here. Thank you.

Our next concert at St. Augustine's Church is brought to you by the Bard of Holderness and his singers. Thousands of people attended Methodist Camp meetings in the past. These open air festivals happened in fields and on common land from the back of a wagon or a temporary wooden stage. As well as preaching the day was spent singing old spiritual songs and folk tunes as well as popular hymns of the day. Our Bard has found the most singable tunes and using authentic instruments of the day and 'gang' of singers , 'The Grandsons and Grand Daughters', he is recreating the musical aspect of these meetings. Come along to hear 'proper' singing and I'm sure they will have you joining in, or at least tapping your toe. This FREE Concert organised by Hedon Museum as part of Heritage Open Days, with assistance of Hedon Town Council and Yorkshire Electricity Park is this Wednesday 13th September at 7pm.

Lambert House in Hedon was built around 1830 and became The White's family home around 1860. It is an outstanding property with beautifully paneled rooms. Co.l Lambert White in his youth went whale hunting, introduced canoeing to Germany, was the first to ride a boneshaker bicycle in Hull, the first to bring the telephone to Hull and use the typewriter in his business. 'The Armoury' is one of the survivours of pieces of old buildings repurposed. There will be classic cars and lorries and a fairground organ too. Take this rare chance to visit this house on Saturday and Sunday 16th/17th September 12:00 to 16:00 for FREE during Heritage Open Days.

A new theatre project comes to Hedon. Hedon Museum has commissioned the Hull Community Theatre and the May Geslins to research, write, produce and perform a folk opera/play to show a year in the farming life of Holderness. The whole piece is based around 1890's reports and starts with the rowdy hiring fairs where the workers finish one years work to let their hair down before settling for the next years employment. Farmers don't have the whip hand all the time! And some finally left the land to find work.
All this and music too in a FREE concert at St. Augustine's Church in Hedon as part of Hedon Museum presentations for Heritage Open Days. It starts at 2 pm on Saturday 9th September. Where better to sit out the heat of the day that in this wonderful church watching some new Theatre. Follow the link for just one of the songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yGYI7fry-M
