Behind the Scenes at The Helmsley Retreat

We’ve been hard at work making improvements at The Helmsley Retreat, and one of the latest updates is in the kitchen lighting! 💡

While installing a new heat detector (to meet fire safety regulations), we thought, "Why not brighten things up a bit?" So, we’ve:
✨ Installed new ceiling spotlights above the back door and sink area.
✨ Added LED under-cupboard lights for better task lighting.
✨ Fitted two stylish pendant lights above the island worktop to create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

The kitchen is now much brighter and more functional, whether you're preparing dinner or pouring a glass of wine in the evening. And with the new lighting, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy that wine on the sofa while soaking in the relaxing ambiance. 🍷✨

Behind the Scenes at The Helmsley Retreat

We’ve been busy making improvements at The Helmsley Retreat to ensure everything is as convenient and secure as possible for our guests. One of the updates we’ve made is installing new keyed-alike, secure locks for both the front and back doors.

What does this mean for you?
✨ Convenience: You’ll now only need one key for both doors, making things much simpler during your stay.
✨ Safety: The locks are equipped with thumbturn mechanisms on the inside, allowing you to open the doors without a key. This aligns with the latest fire regulations, ensuring a safer and easier escape route in the unlikely event of an emergency.

We’re always working behind the scenes to make your stay at The Helmsley Retreat as comfortable, secure, and stress-free as possible. Stay tuned for more updates!

Recently, we’ve been busy upgrading the property to meet the latest fire safety regulations by installing additional hard-wired and interconnected smoke and heat detectors throughout the cottage. These systems are designed to enhance safety and provide reassurance during your stay.

Behind the Scenes at The Helmsley Retreat

Today, we’ve been giving the hot tub some extra TLC with a 'deep clean and flush'!
While we already drain, clean, and refill the hot tub at every changeover to ensure it’s sparkling clean for each guest, this special flush goes one step further. It works through the pipework to remove any unseen biofilm that could build up over time.

We’re committed to keeping everything in perfect condition, so we’ll be performing this flush regularly every 2–3 months to ensure the highest standards for our guests.

A big shoutout to our friend Dave, a swimming pool specialist, who kindly came round today to guide us through the process. Thanks, Dave! 🙌

A Christmas Beginning at The Helmsley Retreat 🎄

What a whirlwind of a week it’s been! This Monday, we officially got the keys to The Helmsley Retreat, and it’s been non-stop ever since. From sorting energy suppliers, broadband, and water to cleaning, Christmas decorating, and making sure everything was perfect for our first guests—it’s been a busy but exciting time!

Despite the stress and last-minute organizing (all while juggling everything else this time of year brings), we couldn’t be happier to welcome our first guests, who are spending Christmas at The Helmsley Retreat. Their lovely message has made all the hard work worth it, and we’re so chuffed to see the cottage being enjoyed already.

Here’s a little glimpse of our Christmas tree at the cottage 🎄✨ We hope it brings a warm and festive welcome to all our guests this season.

To everyone following our journey, thank you for your support—it means so much to us. We’re so excited to share more as we grow and welcome new Guests to The Helmsley Retreat in 2025!

Today we handed the keys over to the new owners of The Helmsley Retreat. We would like to thank all of our customers for choosing to book with us past and present! Tom & Agnes are going to do an amazing job of taking over, they have great plans for The Helmsley Retreat and we wish them all the luck in the world! (Not that they’ll need it!!!) Please keep an eye out for their new page but for now please follow them on .uk Lookafter Ryedale Cleaners As you will see, Tom & Agnes ‘Look After’ holiday cottages from cleaning to providing maintenance needs!
