St. Michael's Mount is just half an hour from Penty Myghal - it doesn’t always look quite so mysterious as in this fabulous capture from Liam Alford photography - but it’s certainly steeped in myths and legend. You can access the beautiful island by boat or along the causeway at low tide.

so after seeing numerous posts of the mount shrouded in fog yesterday whilst traveling back from Wales, I thought I'd go check it out myself this morning

I was in luck as the fog was still around and was intermittently covering the castle. After waiting patiently for around an hour I captured a photo I was happy with

Do your children love skateboarding?? We’ve been really enjoying it on the Olympics!

Porthleven has a great skate park in the park opposite the cottage but there’s also one at Helston where they can hone their skills this summer 🛹

This Friday 9th, we still have a few spaces left for our Intermediate lesson 11-12pm.
This session is for confident skaters who want to learn a new trick or to build confidence on some of the harder ramps.

I maintain that the weather is better in Porthleven than anywhere else in Cornwall - I often drive out of the grey into sunshine as I pass the boating lake in Helston - but this has to be proof!

Our brambles are still developing their fruit - in Porthleven this morning there are already blackberries!! Anyone else seen them earlier?

Porthleven Lifeboat Day - parking/road access update

On Sunday 4 August we will be restricting access along Harbour Road past Harbour Inn and Nauti but Ice so that there's plenty of room for people enjoying lifeboat day. All but essential access will be closed.
The map shows the closure and event zones marked in blue.
We kindly ask people not to park along the road from 8am Sunday morning so there's space for stalls to set up.
Event parking is available at the cricket club which is a short walk from the harbour.

We love it at Roskilly’s - the roasts on Sunday with their own beef & pork are gorgeous but whatever you have make sure you leave room for a Sundae 🍨 the music nights are a lovely way to spend an evening 🎤, the walks are wonderful 🐾 and the kids will love feeding the animals 🐖🦆

This is just up the road from me - it looks like great fun!

About half an hour from Penty Myghal is both South West Lakes Trust and Via Ferrata Cornwall which offer fabulous on & off water experiences including sailing, kayaking, raft building, rock climbing & zip wiring - plenty to keep even the most adventurous guest occupied 🧗

Bolla is now open! It looks fabulous, can’t wait for a coffee & to discover what a “cheesy ssamyang” is!

Since reopening, our menu has changed a little bit.
There’s still the Bolla classics like our filthy delicious cheesy ssamjang and the comforting and nourishing soul bowl, but a few extras too.

We’ll also be serving an ever changing selection of small plates - think tapas style, enough as a snack for one or a few to share over a few drinks in the sunshine. You’ll find today’s small plates on the specials board.

But for now, as it’s Sunday, we’ll take a bacon roll, a pastry and two coffees, thank you 😉🫶🏽☕️

We are not at all surprised but we are thrilled for Vertical Blue Cornwall-SUP for their award.

You can find them just a few minutes walk from Penty Myghal, just before the Ship Inn Porthleven and join them for activities like sea kayaking, SUPing or Coasteering. If you prefer dry land there’s also the climbing wall, archery & axe throwing to enjoy!

Great to once again hit the top 10% of businesses worldwide! We really appreciate all the reviews we get and if you havnt done one you can at any time! (As long as they are good 😊).

“Gigs were originally built at the end of the 18th Century in Cornwall, to take the pilot out to the sailing ships. They were used as many of the harbours were too small for the ships to anchor.

It was essential for the gig owner to build a boat that would be fast on the Cornish waves. Whichever gig reached the anchored ship first received the money for the job. Gigs have also been used in smuggling, and as lifeboats.

When a new gig was built it was tested against opposition boats to find out how fast it was. It was only a matter of time before these impromptu races were replaced with official fixtures, and so pilot gig racing was born.”

Of course this is the last reason that you’d want your visit the Harbour Inn - I can recommend their Sunday Lunch & their outdoor bar & pizza offerings when the sun is shining!

Definitely worth knowing though - and, although I hope none of us will ever need it - I’m going to add the location to my digital guidebook for guests.
