It’s decidedly soggy in Cornwall, feels like we are walking on wet sponge in the garden here at Hallowarren! But we must remember that it’s the rain that keeps everything so luscious and green like these young Acer leaves that George beautifully shot last year. 🍃

We are looking forward to summer picnics in the garden, are you? 🌞 Although this winter has been quite dry, it is hard not to feel a bit fed up with April showers!

One of the best things about Hallowarren Barn is the peace and quiet which is something you can’t portray in a photograph, plus clean air! While sitting in the garden, you can hear the wild birds, the trickle of the stream and that’s about it. No main roads. Only Amanda and her dog Ludo next door. Oh and the occasional strimmer or lawn mower which to be honest, is pretty relaxing! 🌿

If you need a break for some real RnR, you can’t find a better spot.

Missing the autumnal light while the weather is miserable… at this time of year it is wonderful to hunker down in front of the fire with a good book or hot chocolate or glass of wine, in line with our ancestral requirement to slow down and take stock during the colder, harsher months. 🌑🌪🔥🌨❄️

Hallowarren is always very soggy at this time of year, it’s like walking on a wet sponge! Mud everywhere. Puddles. Wet dogs. Muddy pigs. 🐖

We are very close to nature down here, it is hard not to respect it when you deal with it on a daily basis. Much easier to just grab an umbrella and waterproof coat to dash to the car when you know that’s the only wet you’ll deal with when living in a town for example. That’s why farmers and countryside-dwellers can be seen in full wet weather gear, from November until March! 🦆

We are looking out for snowdrops and daffodils, croci and narcissi. How about you? What’s started to grow already with the promise of spring?

Unusual light this morning in the valley. It doesn’t matter how many mornings we wake up here, it’s always beautiful! Look at those autumnal colours 🍁🍂

It’s that time of year again… well, for Amanda it’s always wreath making time of year! This is her harvest festival wreath, using a mixture of homegrown foliage and gifted flowers from other locals. 😍🍁🍂

Amanda is running a couple of small wreath workshops before Christmas, the first is fully booked but there’s a few spaces left for her early December one.

If you’d like to spend a morning making a wreath and drinking coffee, drop us a message!

Alternatively if you’d like a handmade wreath from Amanda (willow or dog wood bases, fully reusable!), a variety of sizes will be available to buy on request. 🥳🌿💐

Tree house excitement!

The grandsons are so thrilled to have a proper treehouse now. A real pleasure to see! 🍂🌱

We enjoyed a BBQ outside this afternoon, without coats, perhaps for the last time in 2021. Bliss. 🤗🥰

The Bengal-cross kittens are enjoying their freedom 🐈‍⬛

There is a lot to learn about here so we have been quite wary of letting them roam too far. One has already had a dice with death, falling from a tree into the stream! 😱
