We have been trialing a new check out time with recent guests, giving them the option to leave by 11am. This would allow you to be able to take your dogs for a decent walk before they have to jump in the car. We are able to do this at Ruby Gem because we are the cleaners, gardeners and launderers and although 4 hours to turn the cottage round is a bit tight we think there are benefits. For us it means we don't have such an early start from home.
Is this something that appeals to you? Or do you prefer to get going at the crack of dawn?

Sailed past here this morning and I have to say it looked idyllic but a bit too early for an Aspalls. The Ferry Inn, Stokesby ideal if you are on your way to Winterton and want to stop for lunch before check in, dog friendly with seating inside and out.

What a year! Last September this little fellow arrived at 8 weeks old. Donald the potential guide dog, we have exposed him to a range of experiences including changeovers at Ruby Gem and an ERC social at The Lighthouse. Taken him on buses, trains and got him used to jumping into the car. Recall is still a work in progress, along with learning his name and his selective hearing, could all be linked. Now at just over a year old I took him to the GD training centre at Leamington Spa on Thursday, to start the next phase of his life and wished his trainer a lot of luck with the independently minded Mr Big D.

We have a bowl of pebbles at the cottage where many guests write on their names and paw prints. Today we found this beautiful piece of artwork, I think I know who painted it, thank you to the artist.

This is Willow last week enjoying Winterton. What do you think she is telling you about her hols? Miles of deserted beach to run, dig, sniff and explore in? Or acres of dunes to, yes you guessed it run, dig, sniff and explore in? She has now gone home for a rest but we hope to see her back to maybe do a bit more running, digging, sniffing and exploring in the future. 🤣

Finally it is May and the sun is shining, ideal day to take your dog to the beach. 'But I can't!' I hear you say because most places don't allow them from 1st May. Most places aren't Wonderful Winterton-on-sea in Norfolk, they can zoomie to their hearts content all year round here.
Ruby Gem has last 2 weeks in May free and a couple in August.

We had a bit of snow in Winterton yesterday which isn't ideal on changeover day but undeniably pretty. Winter in Winterton doesn't stop it being wondeful.

Wonderful Winterton-on-sea is featuring on Countryfile this evening. A much better spot to see the seals than then Blakeney which was at the start of the programme. I think I could catch a glimpse of Hidden Gem just behind the seal wardens ear.

The 1st December and it is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, snow is falling outside right now, Christmas songs on the radio, shops filled with a heightened sense of urgency. You feel like you need to cherish a glorious November day like this, as we head into winter. Donald could only look at the beach as there was a baby seal on the access ramp. Plenty of time for that on another day. So instead he had another go at a free run, a new thing for the both of us. Surprisingly unnecessarily streesful.

A day of 'firsts' for Donald our 17 week potential guide dog. First puppy class with other baby guide dogs, toys, lessons and no chaos, amazing. Then the excitement of putting up the Christmas decorations, he has not a clue what it is all about. Finally, his first sleepover away from home at Ruby Gem, he loved the secure garden for his busy,busy and more importantly he can roast in front of a log fire. Tomorrow another first, a run on the beach and sand dunes, so much digging to be done.
