We are lucky to have the most beautiful night skies at Cothill Barns - sit around the firepit toasting marshmallows and enjoy the stars!

Planets over Herefordshire

Herefordshire, with huge areas without any light pollution, is perfect for observing the dark skies. Here are a couple of dates for your diary this January:

🔭 16 January - Mars at its brightest
When a planet is ‘at opposition’ it’s directly opposite to the Sun in the sky, which fully illuminates the planet’s face so that it appears at its brightest.

On 16 January Mars will be at opposition, making this a great opportunity to set your eyes or telescopes on the beautiful red planet.

🔭 21 January – A gathering of planets
If you’re a fan of gazing at the planets, set a reminder for after sunset on 21 January, where you’ll be able to spot five planets - Saturn, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars - scattered across the sky until around 9 pm.

Saturn, Venus and Jupiter will be easily visible as bright white points of light, and Mars as an orange dot, but Uranus is quite faint and will require very dark skies or a telescope to attempt to see it.

As Tom & Cerys said, 'Baby it's cold outside', but we have daffodils out at Cothill Barns, so Spring must be on the way!!

Half term availability from 26th October, near the beautifully quirky Hay on Wye, on the English/Welsh border. Sleeps 4 in two en suite rooms and is now £695 for the week. Two more guests can be accommodated for a supplement in the cosy shepherd's hut in the garden. Dog friendly enclosed garden, games room and footpaths from the door. Lots to do in the area and great places to eat. Fabulous views over the Black Mountains, the Golden Valley and woodland.

Tango is a great favourite with guests and has the sweetest nature, spending hours waiting for them to stroke her......not sure all the mud makes her such an attraction at the moment!!

Just a short drive from Cothill Barns and always somewhere guests love to go. Well done!

We have just been awarded our placement in the Top 50 Gastropubs yesterday where we have come in at no.41! We are over the moon with this after only being open for two years so far. Congratulations to all the other amazing pubs around the UK. So happy to be included in the awards alongside some incredibly talented chefs and front of house teams. We were the only ones awarded from Herefordshire too! We can’t wait to welcome you all in for a meal soon! Thank you for the continued support 🙏
