We have just been awarded our placement in the Top 50 Gastropubs yesterday where we have come in at no.41! We are over the moon with this after only being open for two years so far. Congratulations to all the other amazing pubs around the UK. So happy to be included in the awards alongside some incredibly talented chefs and front of house teams. We were the only ones awarded from Herefordshire too! We can’t wait to welcome you all in for a meal soon! Thank you for the continued support 🙏

There is so much more to Hay than the Festival and it's feels a privilege to live so near to such a vibrant, unique, quirky place.

As the final few festival guests depart and the town returns to it's normal pace, we wanted to remind folk that Hay-on-Wye is not just all about books and festivals, it’s also got top-rated pubs, cafe’s and Michelin-starred restaurant’s with gorgeous food, often locally sourced and made, washed down with local ciders, ales and juices.
It's a year-round destination for a foodie getaway well worth adding to your travel bucket-list.
Here is our run down of where to eat in Hay on Wye -

Beautiful views even with cloud cover and totally stunning on a clear day. Just one of so many amazing walks to try when you stay at Cothill Barns.

Now the views from The Cat's Back are always epic but this cloud cover made it extra special for talented photographer 📸

The Black Hill or The Cat’s Back is in the Black Mountains. It's known as the Cat’s Back due to the hill resembling the appearance of a hunched, sitting cat. Traversing the border between England and Wales, this is an energetic walk, but you will be rewarded with the most stunning views.

After your walk why not rest and refuel at local pubs The Bull's Head Craswall or The Bridge Inn, Michaelchurch Escley

A perfect weekend, half term or cheeky midweek blast of fresh air and perspective - unique to the glorious county of Herefordshire.

**GOLDEN VALLEY VIBES**

Dore Abbey, in Herefordshire’s picturesque Golden Valley, was established in 1147 and populated by monks from Morimond Abbey in the Champagne region of north-eastern.

However, despite being bequeathed some historic relics, which originally drew in crowds, finances were poor and the house was dissolved in 1536.

In 1633 the owner, Viscount Scudamore (the Scudamore family still hold their seat after 1000 years, at nearby Kentchurch Court) restored what was left of the abbey church to convert it for use as the local parish church.

Further repairs were carried out by Roland Paul in 1901-09 and the medieval presbytery is one of the finest Cistercian survivals in the west of Britain.
Today it has been further updated and is well patronised, hosting annual events.

The drive to it at this time of year is incredibly pretty and a great opportunity to explore this beautiful part of our county.
