It’s okay to stand alone when your surroundings are full of beauty and peace like this single daffodil.

Daffodils symbolize rebirth, new beginnings, hope, joy, and good luck.

Much of this symbolism arises from the fact that daffodils emerge each spring to light up barren landscapes with their cheerful yellow, orange, and white flowers, even though this one stands alone, it’s okay to stand alone.

A total eclipse will pass across North America Monday the 8th of April 2024 beginning at the west coast of Mexico, and heading north east across the United States and towards the east coast of Canada.

Ellie Henderson from kielder observatory is out in Texas and will be sharing a live streaming uplink, it is expected that the eclipse will have totality blackout around 19:45 BST on Monday night, and we look forward to sharing it with you!

And the first Ospreys of the year have returned to Kielder, with one pair claiming a nest with sweeping views over Kielder Village.

The Ospreys are named KM18 and KX7 they have pre-booked the best penthouse and have occupied Nest 7 in Kielder, they have been breeding since 2020, the pair have raised nine chicks in total, the eldest of which had a chick herself last year, it was a good Friday for the Kielder nesting colony which was completed by the appearance of osprey W6.

There was a fine display of rare Nacreous Clouds over Northumberland this morning! Also known as Polar Stratospheric Clouds, they're more commonly seen at higher latitudes where the atmosphere can reach lower temperatures. They are formed by the scattering of light through tiny ice crystals in the lower stratosphere.

I hate mushrooms so I just leave them alone, however, I might go and try some tomorrow, it’s not everyday you get to pick Cantharellus walking the dog.

Cantharellus cibarius is known as the Girole in France and simply as Chanterelle in Britain. Occasional large groups of Chanterelles occur notably under birch trees.

Chanterelles are world famous not only because they are so good to eat but also because they are free in kielder village.

Halley’s comet is on her way back to earth, after passing by in 1986.

For the last 38 years the comet has been hurtling millions of miles further away from Earth every day; but now it will spend the next 38 years coming closer.

Astronomers haven't seen the comet at all since 2003, because it became too small and dim to see.

Halley's Comet makes its next fly by the sun on July 28, 2061.

So, until 2061 you’ll have to visit kielder village twice a year, that’s because we have two meteor showers associated with icy debris left behind by the comet on prior trips, and they are amazing.

In 1962 Anne Sexton penned a poem to Vincent Van Gogh in response to his painting of the stars, sometimes to be silent and just look up is all you need, he’s painting is worth millions, yet our stars are pricelessly free.

The viaduct bridge is slightly older dating back to C1862 making it 161 years old.

On Friday the 8th of December all the heavy machinery finish work in the forest and parade their vehicles in a convoy from kielder village to Hexham, the drivers raise money for charity and it is one event that plays to the beauty of the dark skies with all their adorned lighting and air horns, this is a fantastic event if you can make it.
