So I’ll be honest I haven’t been on socials for 2 weeks! I know this is a cardinal sin according to marketing/SEO experts, but I was busy with another project and I didn’t feel I had anything interesting to say or post.

I never plan posts, I’m afraid you just get me on a spontaneous moment chatting away. I hope that’s ok. Authenticity is important right?

…I loved decorating Heather the shepherds hut for the lovely Anna Charlton who is a dear friend of mine We just wanted to make Heather more colourful and cosy. Anna Charlton has created an amazing sanctuary in a magical and hidden part of Northumberland. Check out Anna’s other huts, the black tower and the tree house, they are magical. This part of Northumberland near Bellingham is off the beaten track so you don’t see tourists and the people are real people. I am totally biased because of live in Northumberland too! Anna has created her business herself, reinvested and always making sure everything is perfect for her guests. The huts are in the national park so there is no light pollution so the starry skies are so clear. photos by

What a honour, Raven tower has been shortlisted for the very prestigious 2024 RIBA North East Award. The Royal Institute of British Architects has been celebrating outstanding work for over 180 years. Their awards and prizes are regarded internationally as a mark of excellence, recognising the best architecture, architects, research, and students.

Thank you to the amazing who patiently listened to my crazy idea and made it happen!! We are in very fine company. The shortlisted projects are:

Auckland Castle, Tower and Faith Museum, County Durham, Fire Station Auditorium, Sunderland, Percy Cottage, Northumberland and us!

All projects shortlisted for RIBA Regional Awards will be visited by a regional jury, and the winning projects will be announced later this spring.

Lots of you asked, so the 2025 booking calendar for is now open! BTW this nursery picture by Molly Brett hung at the end of my bed for many years and I think it’s responsible for a lot. It happily now resides in my daughter’s bedroom.

Well as you can imagine it’s been a very busy few days of bookings. Thank you to all those of you who have booked. By doing so I promise you will have the most magical time, but remember you are also supporting a small business, our little team of hardworking and dedicated rural staff and the restoration of a very old historic building! Bravo who showcases the best of the North East and brings so much joy to our sitting rooms in January. I was nervous about being interviewed on Robson Green”s weekend escapes but Robson and the team were so lovely and appreciative of Skylark it was all very relaxed and easy. As you know I could talk for hours about Northumberland, treehouses and our connection with nature!

Anyway if you want any a laugh and a peak inside Skylark we’re on BBC2 at 6.30pm this Wednesday. Or catch up on iPlayer series 2 episode 8.

Twixmas. It’s a confusing time isn’t it, the time between Christmas and New Year? I’m not sure I know what day it is and I just have to stop eating that Christmas cake!! We’re busy in the huts too and I have to thank our amazing team here . They won’t like being named but they are some of the most important people in my life. Lovely, kind, hardworking and fun. Thank you Susie, Sharon, Heidi, Glenda, Tracy, Teresa, Dave, Sue, Colin and Ralph for all your help in 2023.
