"Exploring Sepilok was by far the best part of the trip as the range of unique wildlife was incredible to witness. Being able to see the endangered Orangutans up close and personal in their natural habitat was magnificent. The Proboscis Monkeys were funky looking creatures that I had always dreamt of seeing in person." Lachlan, Student 2024

"One of my favourite parts of the trip was being part of the food team, it taught me so much and allowed me to provide for people. Moreover, building the little gardens for turtle release was also a highlight of my journey because there was something to show for the efforts we had put in. Finally, I loved being able to help the animals because it has always been something that I am passionate about. This trip has been life changing, it has opened my eyes to a new community and taught me countless life lessons." Evie, Student 2024

"I have gained so much confidence and independence from this trip. Before I went, I was so nervous and anxious, but after the trip made me step out of my comfort zone and deal with challenges independently, I now feel as though I am an independent person who can cope with the challenges that come my way in life. I also learnt how to collaborate with and be considerate of others even when I myself was not feeling the best." Sophie, student 2024

Spend the next couple of days camping beneath the Silver Mountains and living alongside a group of rural communities. Meet your hosts and find out about the inspiring initiatives they’ve been working on. Visit the women’s bike shop and experience a women’s health initiative, which are both making a big impact. Meet the women making sustainable sanitary products and learn how they’re transforming local lives.
This is a side of Tanzania that few tourists see. Chat with your hosts, learn about their lives and lend a hand. To make the most of your time here, you’ll need to leap outside your comfort zone and stay open-minded.

📣 WANTED – Student Ambassadors for World Challenge 🌍

Can you inspire other young people to take the plunge and sign up for a World Challenge expedition? If yes, then it’s time to graduate from being a World Challenger and join our team of Student Ambassadors!

As an ambassador you must be passionate about your 2024 World Challenge trip, confident and keen to tell your story on Zoom calls on weekday evenings.
You’ll receive; mentoring from our team, a t-shirt and of course payment for every presentation you join.

How to apply:
Create a 2-minute video of yourself explaining;
1. What you learnt about yourself on your World Challenge trip
2. Which ideas you had to earn your own expedition fee, and how much you raised yourself
3. The one piece of advice you would give to a student considering signing up
Send your video to Ali at [email protected] no later than 8am on Monday 16th December.

The students behind our favourite videos will be invited for an informal chat on a Teams call. Successful applicants will need to be available for a Team Training Day in Buckinghamshire on Saturday 18th January (reasonable travel expenses paid) where we’ll equip you with all the skills you need.

What did you enjoy most?
"Could I say everything? Seriously everything about this trip was amazing. But definitely snorkelling and walking the beach in Nha Trang, while relaxing after our hike. The markets in Phnom Penh and experiencing the culture in Cambodia. Spending time with the local youth group kids and helping them fix up a school while learning social skills that will last a life time. Relaxing in Siem Reap by the pool and enjoying many delicious foods and experiencing a Cambodian circus." Zahlia, Student 2024

Travel to Tamlakoute village and spend the night in a guest house. You’re about to tackle Jebel Siroua (3,305m) – a volcanic peak, south of the High Atlas Mountains.
Set off across the plateau. On the way, you’ll have views of Toubkal – the highest peak in North Africa. Work as a team to cross remote ridges and sparkling streams. Trekking in this remote landscape is tough, so you’ll have support vehicles or mules to carry your kit.
Each night, pitch your tents and eat dinner beneath the stars. Life out here is epic.

"My favourite parts of the trip were certainly Kudat as well as Miri. I loved the beach at Kudat, I would love to move there one day it was so surreal sitting on the beach watching the stars or sunset and overall an amazing place. Miri stood out to me as the city was so unique I had never seen anything quite like it, it was beautiful in a rustic and run-down way which I loved." Kayla, Student 2024

Essaouira is a magical place to unwind, with its blue fishing boats, Portuguese port and windswept sands. Walk along the ramparts, explore the medina, and watch fishermen selling their catch.
This town is famous for its crafts, so visit the woodworkers’ souk and watch the artisans at work. Why not visit an Argan oil cooperative? Watch how the women crack nuts to extract the precious oil. The profits from these cooperatives are shared among the local women, helping to provide healthcare and education to the community.

What have you gained from this experience?
"Having the experience of Hiking and Camping, but also the knowledge I built up and gathered on the trip about Borneo as a place overall. Gaining the ability to push myself mentally and physically will also help me in future challenges, but I've also realised my appreciation for my home and that others are doing it much tougher than you might think." Jack, Student 2024

Back in Marrakech, discover more of the ancient city and its surroundings. Known as ‘the Red City’, Marrakech is famous for its pinky-red buildings. Djemaa El Fna Square should be top of your list, with its storytellers, musicians and medicine men, along with belly dancers, acrobats and open-air food stalls.
The souks are a must. These exotic marketplaces sell everything from spices to carpets. And the city’s streets are a feast for the senses, with palaces, mosques, mopeds and donkey carts. To explore more, you could visit the golden Saadian Tombs, the beautiful Bahia Palace or the exotic Majorelle Gardens.
