September sunsets in Cuil Bay

The group who cancelled at the last minute really don't know what they are missing out on!

But it does mean we have a rare few days free if you fancy a last minute getaway, and the forecast is for lot's more sun.

I realise that most of my posts focus very much around my home and local surrounds.

But it is genuinely because I can't think of anywhere I would rather be!

Duror forest early evening. In the height of holiday season. Ten miles round ride/walk and I didn't meet a single soul.

Looking back to Cuil Bay and the Ardgour Hills beyond.

This is the best and most bountiful time of year when you .

Tonight on the menu we have a starter of warmed figs.

Followed by roasted rack of mutton and elephant garlic, (with rosemary of course).

Sides are two types of potato, sweetheart cabbage, beans and peas, and home made mint sauce.

Finished off with blaeberry pudding garnished with calendula.

Wow what a display northern lights last night. Probably the best I have ever seen, and the photos reflect what the naked eye saw - although I think the naked eye captured more !

My little flock of sheep were originally a 'rescue' flock which we gave a home to when a neighbour lost their grazing.

We now have generations of the offspring of this early flock - I don't breed from them, and they will live their lives out here together. (Sheep form very close bonds).

These are a few of the little 'forever Flock' saying hello over the gate.

They love guests saying hello to them and treats!

We have been warning guests about wildfire risk over the last few weeks.

All have been very understanding, and are quite shocked to learn there have been several quite serious wildfires in our area in the last few weeks.

We do have a fire pit and advise when it is safe to use it.

We did have a major wildfire in Cuil Bay several years ago with sparks coming from a small lidded domestic incinerator setting the whole hill alight. It was terrifying, and tragic for wildlife and ground nesting birds.

It was also extremely stressful for livestock and domestic animals in the area(and residents!).

Sometimes it's just not worth the risk.
