Monday was our last day of the trip, we were up and off the Travelmarvel Nova by 8.45 for our morning visit to Schonbrunn Palace, the coach journey took about 45 minutes.
Schonbrunn Palace is a beautiful Palace in Vienna and was the summer Palace if the Habsburgs who ruled for over 600 years.
After a guided tour of the Palace we had a bit of free time so luckily we were able to visit the fabulous Christmas Market that was in front of the Palace.
This market was bigger than the markets in the city centre and had the traditional stalls as well as many craft stalls and the obligatory gluhwein stalls.
After lunch, a 3 course meal 😂🙈🤣, we headed to the airport for our flight home.

I though this deserved a post on its own!!! 🤣😂
You will certainly be well fed and watered on APT Travelmarvel.
During lunch and dinner wine, beers and soft drinks are included.
Afternoon tea is served in the lounge between 3.30 - 4.30 and there are complimentary hot drinks available 24 hours a day in the lounge.
Bar prices are really no different to prices in local towns.
You are not hit with a bill at the end of the trip which has added tax or service charges 👍

Sunday afternoon after a light lunch served in McGeary's bar on board we docked on the outskirts of Vienna in Nussdorf, about a 20 minute transfer I to Vienna.
The first part of the tour was by coach around the famous Ringstrasse.
We then commenced our walking tour which took us through the pedestrian street where we visited the Spanish Rifing School, the Opera House, the Hofburg Palace and St Stephen's cathedral.
From the Hofburg Palace down to St Steven's cathedral the Christmas markets were in full swing, so it was only polite to sample some of the food and gluhwein.

Sunday morning we woke and were sailing through Slovakia on our way to Vienna, the morning started with a talk about the excursion programs APT Travelmarvel offer in Vienna, this was several tours in and around Vienna or a day trip to Bratislava. A trip to the Vienna Opera was also offered for the evening as the boat was docked overnight.
To get to Vienna we travelled through 2 locks, 1 during the night and 1 entering Vienna was late morning so most passengers were up on a very chilly deck watching

Saturday morning waking in Budapest to blue skies and cold temperatures was such a relief from the previous night, early breakfast and then we were set for a tour of Budapest.
During the coach tour we stopped and saw many of the beautiful sights including Heroes Square, and crossed over to Buda Castle area which has Mathias Church and Fisherman's Bastion.
Early afternoon we re-boarded the Vega and set sail towards Vienna

Last weekend I experienced a few days river cruising on the Danube with APT Travelmarvel.
We flew our to Budapest and boarded the Travelmarvel Vega in the dark and pouring rain of Friday evening.
A lovely 3 course dinner was served and we later headed to or cabins after a long day

Happy New Year, travel is becoming easier ✨

From Friday fully vaccinated travellers coming back to England will no longer have to test abroad, and from Sunday rather than taking a PCR test on day 2 travellers can take a cheaper lateral flow test (not NHS) and do not have to isolate.
