📷 Photos from my Mum and Stepdad who have just got back from their Premium Intrepid small group tour of Morocco. 📷

Highlights of this 15 day trip included camping out in a remote oasis in the Sahara Desert, exploring the ancient medina of Fes with a local guide and a chef-led cooking class amongst the olive groves of Tahanaout.

These two would be the last people I’d have anticipated to want to do a small group tour, but they gave it a go in Cambodia and loved it so much they opted for this longer tour in Morocco. This type of travel allows you to cross paths with people who you’re unlikely to ever meet again – gaining an insight into not only local life, but the lives of other travellers from around the world.

Would you be tempted by a small group tour?

This responsible luxury paradise is a champion of sustainability, weaving thoughtful practices throughout its operations. From the guest facing coral nursery, guided nature walks and the local Heritage Museum, to behind the scenes water and waste management practices, regular team training and clean-up operations, sustainability is at the heart of everyday life on the island.

A complimentary sunset cruise was a massive highlight for these two, where a couple of pods of dolphins came over to play. 🐬

Six week long sabbatical!

This couple decided 2025 was the year to take a sabbatical from work, so that they could head off on a family adventure for the entire summer holidays.

They wanted to do a mix of independent travel and small group touring (with other families from around the world).

They’ll head over to Sri Lanka for a few days of R&R in a lagoon facing villa, just outside Negombo, and then join an immersive Intrepid tour of the island. Designed specifically for families, this tour takes in the cultural triangle, the central highlands and the expansive tea plantations.

They'll then leave the group and head over to a lesser-explored corner of Yala National Park (so that they can head out safari without the crowds) and on to a beachfront boutique on a mile-long stretch of sandy beach on the south coast.

But that’s not the end of their summer adventure. Indonesia is calling.

Ubud in Bali will provide a vibrant culture fix before they head over to the lesser explored island of Flores. Here, they will board a private liveaboard boat and sail around Komodo National Park for 3 nights, taking in 10 different islands!

Back on dry land, they wanted to explore the interior of Lombok, so are spending time in a village surrounded by rice terraces, mountains and waterfalls.

They’ll then head to beautiful lodge on a world class surf beach before spending their final week in an eco-lodge on one of the lesser-known Gilli islands (more about that in another post!)

A tad jealous? I am!

Do you need help booking a big family trip?

I recently put together a 28 day adventure for a family of 5, who wanted to visit relatives in Tasmania and Melbourne, but combine with a road trip around New Zealand.

Their flight connects through Kuala Lumpur, so rather than hanging around the airport, they decided to make use of this stopover and explore the Malyasian capital for a few days.

They’ll then continue to Auckland for a couple of nights, pick up a rental car and drive north to the explore the beautiful Bay of Islands for a few days (basing themselves in seaview apartment).

Heading south, they’ll take in Hamilton (with its unique gardens), Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari’s walking trails and geothermal Rotorua with its showstopping geysers, fascinating glowworm caves and indigenous zorbing. The National Kiwi Hatchery is also located around here.

Tongariro National Park is likely to be snowy, so they’ve got a night in a ski lodge to break up the journey and will then continue on to spend a few days in Wellington before flying over to Oz.

It’s then time to hit the beaches in Sydney and take a trip out into the Blue Mountains, before being reunited with family in Tasmania.

Their final stop, before heading back to reality, is the dynamic city of Melbourne – famous for its arty, sporty, foodie scene and iconic trams.

If you want to make a big trip this year (or next!), but just don’t know where to start, please do get in touch!

I treat every trip as if it was my own and will happily take the hours and hours of research off your hands.

Once your financially protected package is booked, you'll have access to me and my 24//7 Duty Office throughout your trip, to help with any eventualities.

🇮🇳 Photos shared from a 14 night adventure around Kerala, India.

This trip was put together with *responsible travel* at its heart. From the accommodation selected and route taken (maximising time in micro-locations rather than travelling too much) to the immersive and community focused excursions led by knowledgeable local guides.

Highlights in photos:

🏰 Exploring historic Fort Kochi - complete with a stop at a hospital laundry! (4)
☕ The tea estates around Munnar in the Western Ghats (1,2,3)
⛰ Nilgiri Tahrs (wild mountain goats) in Eravikulam National Park, Western Ghats (5)
🦜Bamboo rafting and birdlife in Periyar National Park. 🐘 Elephants were also spotted here!
🌶 A stay at the Spice Village (an eco-conscious and community focused collection of traditional style bungalows).
🚤 A night spent cruising the Keralan backwaters on a traditional houseboat. (6,7,8)
🏝 Downtime in a coconut palm grove at Marari Beach Resort, where the Arabian Sea meets the Indian Ocean. Room with private pool. (9,10)

I love organising bespoke adventures, so please do get in touch if you’d like me to take the hours and hours of trip research off your hands.

2025 Travel Plans

Life got busy towards the end of last year and I had a bit of social media fatigue, so took a little hiatus whilst I worked on some exciting travel adventures – including two, six weeklong family sabbaticals, which I’ll share with you soon!

📸 in this post reflect my Tribes travel plans for 2025… just in case it helps with inspiration.

🇪🇸 A couple of nights in Cordoba, then glamping in the Sierra Morena mountains for some winter sunshine this February.

🇭🇷 🇸🇮 A 3-week summer road trip, working up from the Dalmatian coast of Croatia into Slovenia, via Plitvice Lakes National Park. We’ll spend some time exploring the lakes, rivers and mountains of Slovenia, before dropping back down into Istria, Croatia. Currently trying to work out if we can do this in an EV.🤞

🇺🇸 New York in the Fall. The last time we visited New York it was midsummer and 42 degrees celsius. So excited to take the kids and explore this iconic city - all decked out for Halloween.

---

It’s a busy time of year for travel planning, so if you have firm ideas of what you’re looking for, it’s best to get your trips booked now before availability dips.

Conversely, if you want to get away but have no idea where to, please do get in touch - I'm sure I can help.

💚

📸 Cambodia 📸

My parents wanted to explore Cambodia as part of a small group tour and opted for a Premium Intrepid adventure.

They’ve visited the city of Phnom Penh to learn about its sobering past, stopped by a working Buddhist monastery to meet the resident monks and explored the UNESCO World Heritage-listed temples of Angkor Wat, alongside an archaeological guide. Other highlights included a trip to a traditional village and the Santuk Silk Farm, known for empowering local women as expert weavers.

Intrepid support local partners in each destination. This adventure contributed towards the Cambodia Rural Students Trust, which helps break the cycle of poverty by inspiring and empowering children with education opportunities.

Very excited for a couple in need of a relaxing trip with a dash of adventure, who are off to the Caribbean next week.

Their first stop, on the western coast of Barbados, is a 1940’s built luxury hideaway, with a reputation for fine food, impeccable service and contemporary Bajan charm.

They can spend their days relaxing poolside, taking boat trips out into the Caribbean Sea or snorkelling in the bay in search of the local Hawksbill turtle population. Trips to the local rum shacks and distilleries are also popular excursions.

They’ll then hop over to a secluded bay in Grenada, to enjoy a stylish, intimate stay at another foodie hotspot; Calabash. This beautiful hotel is committed to sustainable luxury and have embedded many environmentally friendly practices into upgrades and renovations over the last 10 years. They have a ‘farm-to-fork’ ethos, where delicious menus are led by produce-availability, operate a rainwater harvesting system and look for closed-loop solutions whenever possible (i.e. food waste and cleared beach seaweed becomes kitchen-garden fertiliser).

Can't wait to hear about this trip!

Some places deserve more superlatives than I can find. Plataran Borobudur on Java is one of those.

Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Borbudur Temple and surrounded by teak forests and the Menoreh Hills, this incredible hotel allowed our (often noisy and argumentative) family of 5 to enjoy unbelievable peace and privacy during a 2-night stay this summer. Our traditional Javanese villa, complete with its own private pool and secluded tropical garden, is honestly what dreams are made of. I think we all floated on ‘cloud 9’ for duration of our stay.

We were totally spoilt each morning, enjoying a seemingly endless a la carte breakfast as the sun rose up over Borobudur. Both the staff and food were beyond incredible. I’ve never met such a warm and friendly team – they knew all of our names within seconds of arriving and seemed to be able to read our minds half the time. Children are welcomed and truly spoilt here. It’s a magical place.

Highlights, alongside the friendly team, incredible villa and sunrise breakfasts, were a beanbag picnic afternoon tea (with paper kite making) and a visit to the onsite fairground with manually operated rides.

If you ever get the opportunity to travel to Java, you have to try and spend a night at this magical hotel. It will be worth it – I promise!

If anyone is looking for a luxury UK getaway, check out Cynefin Retreats on the Welsh border. Not one I can book, but we had such a lovely weekend here, celebrating a big birthday!

We stayed in one of their luxe-lodges, with an open plan living area (complete with a little understairs den), two huge bedrooms and a secluded outdoor hot tub which helped make the weekend a proper indoor-outdoor getaway.

We went for woodland walks, pottered around nearby Haye-on-Wye, toasted marshmallows over the firepit and just hung out playing games and enjoying the incredible views. We even got a rainbow (wooden and in real life!)

The lodges can be booked as a trio and there are 4 smaller pods, so a great option for a big get together.

📸 Real trip photos from a week away exploring the Atlas Mountains and Marrakech 📸

September was still very hot in Marrakech, but it would work really well as an October half term getaway.

We last visited during a February half term and although it was warm and sunny in Marrakech we had to navigate snowy mountain terrain in flip flops. 🤭

Just booked an exciting trip to Kerala, Southern India, featuring three CGH Earth hotels, who focus on sustainable and responsible tourism.

Spice Village is one of these hotels. Set within lush gardens of pepper vines and cardamom plants, the cottages here are modelled on the native Manan tribes dwellings. Using local materials, native artisans, mountain spirit and traditional wisdom the elephant grass roofs of these guests rooms epitomise the hotels responsible ethos.

Onsite facilities here include a swimming pool, a traditional Ayurvedic spa and a paper-making centre (where paper waste is made back into pulp and remodelled into notepads, menus and luggage tags!)

The hotel is just two miles from Periyar National Park and for those interested in finding out more about the local wildlife, experienced local naturalists at the hotel will take you on fascinating walks around the estate.

Cove 55 | Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo

Immersed in nature and surrounded by breathtaking views, Cove 55 is a secluded, family-friendly boutique sitting at the foot of Mount Santubong on the shores of the South China Sea. It’s the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploration in Bako National Park, Semenggoh Wildlife Reserve or kayaking in search of dolphins in the Santubong River.

We were lucky enough to spend 4 nights here last month and this incredible infinity pool was one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in SE Asia.

Our two-bed villa stood on stilts amongst the mangroves, with an open plan lounge area, ensuite bathrooms and an expansive outdoor deck. We felt so lucky to be there!

Kechala at Cove55 serves up delicious, modern Sarawakian cuisine, alongside a simpler child-friendly menu and the whole team at Cove 55 were fantastic – going out of their way to create packed breakfasts when early adventures called.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here if Sarawak is on your bucket list.

Please do get in touch if you’d like to know more.

Our final stop.

Nikoi Island, Indonesia is a family-friendly paradise.

Barefoot living. Open-air bedrooms on the beach.

Monitor lizards and shoe-stealing sea otters.

Green and Hawksbill turtle nests dotted all over the sands.

Snorkelling, kayaking, rock climbing, zip-lining, collecting rainbows of shells, trampolining in the sea, SUPing, treasure hunts, bonfires on the beach.

The warmest, friendliest team of local staff you’ll ever meet.

Incredible food.

Responsible and sustainable tourism at its heart.

A worthy write up evades me. Will do a proper summary on all the amazing things Nikoi are doing when I’ve caught up on sleep and work!

The perfect end to our summer adventure. Thank you . One of the very best.
