Come along & explore our corner of North Devon/Cornwall with your furry friends . . paws and relax awhile 🐾 🌳 🐶 🌺 🐝

A short drive from Town Farm Devon Holidays is Sandymouth one of our favourite all-year-round dog-friendly beaches 🐶 🐾

On a low tide Sandymouth offers:
- A wide sandy beach to walk & run along
- Rock pools to explore 🦀🐟
- A seasonal cafe ☕️(open during the summer & holiday weekends ‘out of season’)
- Toilets (open seasonally)
- Lifeguards during summer season

The car park is operated by the National Trust:
- Pay & display (+ attendants during summer)
- During peak summer/school holiday periods the car park can be full by 11am
- An ‘overflow’ field car park does operate (at some distance further up the lane)

There is a steep slope down to the beach with steps, and cobbles at the top of beach.

There is *No Beach* available at high tide.
We prefer to visit two hours each-side of low tide.

On a low tide there is a shipwreck at the far end of the beach towards Northcott (south or ‘left’ when you walk down the steps onto the beach). The SS Belem ran aground in heavy fog on 20 November 1917. The wreck has become a site of archaeological importance, with parts of the boilers, a prop shaft, parts of the hull and stern visible.

We do get asked: ‘Do you have a hot tub?’
Our short answer is ‘No’

Here are our reasons why . .

At Town Farm Devon Holidays we have made the conscious decision not to install a hot tub for both safety & ecological reasons.

* FULLY CLEANED: to ensure that a hot tub is clean for each guest booking. The hot tub would need to be fully drained, cleaned, refilled and reheated during each changeover. When clean water is a limited resource for our planet, we would be significantly increasing our water usage by gallons per week emptying and refilling a hot tub. This is not a priority when our reservoirs often run low or dry in summer. Due to the chemicals used this water could not be recycled, and would have to be discharged to the sewer for treatment. Higher water usage would mean higher water bills, increased power for heating the hot tub & increased cleaning costs. All of which have impacts on the environment and would need be factored into our pricing. Practically the hot tub may not be able to be available for guest use on the last night & first night of stays, due to the emptying, cleaning, refilling and reheating times required.

* LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE: hot tubs are the perfect temperature for the growth of bacteria such as legionnella. To ensure that any bacteria is killed and water quality is strictly maintained it is essential that they are disinfected. With the pH and sanitiser levels tested and recorded at least once a day by the holiday let owner. This would either involve the hot tub needing to be located in a ‘shared’ space where we and other guests have access, or us needing to intrude on our guests private garden at least once a day to take the required water samples for testing.

If you decide to book a holiday home with a hot tub, please make sure that the holiday let owner is following Health and Safety Guidance 282 (HSG282) as they have a ‘duty of care’:https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/hsg282.pdf

Please ask the holiday home owner for their hot tub documentation (particularly the daily water quality testing) to ensure that you are safe.
