Have you been to Tŷ Crempog Tyddyn Môn Pancake House? We last went in February 2020 and were delighted by the quality, taste and value for money of the pancakes on offer. We feel like we’ve been waiting forever for them to reopen after the covid lockdowns and they finally have!

Located in the village of Brynrefail, near Moelfre, Tyddyn Môn have been supporting adults with learning disabilities on Anglesey for over 30 years now, providing support, guidance, work and training opportunities. One of these opportunities is within the Pancake House, where they offer sweet and savoury pancakes with a range of toppings, fillings and sauces. They also do their best to cater to dietary requirements - we had a gluten free pancake back in 2020 that was just as delicious as the regular ones!

This not-for-profit organisation is so worth supporting and why not do it through indulging in fabulous pancakes?!

Have you visited Melin Llynon yet? We finally made it there over the May half term and thought we’d tell you about it today - !

Melin Llynnon is one of Ynys Môn’s greatest ‘small business’ success stories, with Richard Holt at the helm. Anglesey born and bred, Richard trained as a chef, working as head pastry chef for Marcus Wareing in London before embarking on his dream to bring great cakes to Ynys Môn. He bought the mill in Llanddeusant in 2019, and he and has gone from strength to strength in restoring it and creating a tourist attraction with real heart.

Family run, Melin Llynnon has a shop selling their own produce (Siocled, anyone?!) as well as showcasing other small businesses. Alongside this is a model saffari, playground, Celtic roundhouse display and, of course, the mill itself. The icing on the cake, though, is the bakery upstairs, with the now infamous Mônuts!

It’s well worth a visit, we had a great time and felt like both adults and children have something to enjoy!

Isn’t it lovely?!

We’ve been reliably informed that this little bird is an egret (but we are happy to be corrected!)

You might think we saw it at one of the renowned sights for bird watching on Ynys Môn, like Cors Ddyga or Cemlyn Bay, but you’d be wrong! This video was taken on the circular walk from Pentraeth - rich with the history of our island and teeming with wildlife, proving once again that Ynys Môn is so much more than beautiful beaches.

Bore da pawb!

Depending on whereabouts you were this weekend, it was either glorious sunshine or atmospheric sea mist! We spent time in both, first on Trearddur Bay beach and one of the little coves (can you tell where?!) and then on to Rhoscolyn to read a firm favourite in the eerie heaviness that sea mist brings.

Fingers crossed for more beach days this month!

It’s International Earth Day and we’re here for it in the best way we know how - by supporting our local economy and our small, local businesses. We have our office in the heart of our beautiful coastal village and our staff live within five minutes of it. You may have seen our Trearddur Bay Holiday Homes van, which is shared between Caroline, Suzy and Richard. Our cleaners are local to us and we use great local tradespeople, from plumbers to builders to electricians. Given that the theme for International Earth Day 2023 is ‘Invest in our Planet,’ we think we’re on the right track!

Happy International Women’s Day!

We’re sure you know by now, but we have three fabulous women in our office… but can we find a photo of all three of them together? Of course not!!

Caroline, who has managed to remain unphotographed so far, is the newest member of the team, and works alongside Suzy in the holiday homes side of the business, bringing their unrivalled knowledge, passion and empathy to their jobs. The fabulous Karen is an unflappable, calming presence, running the long term lets.

One day, we’ll manage to get the three of them in front of the camera, but, in the meantime, here’s to them and all the other wonderful women out there, on International Women’s Day 🥂

If you thought Ynys Môn was only good for beaches and water sports, you’d be wrong! Did you know it was home to some of the largest lowland wetlands in the U.K, for example? As it is , we thought we’d throw The spotlight on to RSPB Valley Wetlands, in Valley.

One of the most important reed beds in Wales, these wetlands are home to not one, but two Sites of Specific Scientific Interest, because of the open water and aquatic plants. These are of national importance, but despite this, the reserve’s main function is as a breeding ground for bittern and other reedbed wildlife.

RSPB Valley Wetlands is a great place to visit if you’re looking for something more than ‘just’ a beach holiday when you’re staring with us, so why not give it a go?!

🌊 Trearddur Bay 🌊

It may be stating the obvious, but the main attraction of Trearddur Bay is the long stretch of golden sand that lends the village its name. It’s a picturesque backdrop to a quintessential Welsh seaside holiday, while those that fancy their hand at more daring water sports like coasteering and sea kayaking travel a little further round the coast to the more rugged Porthdafarch.

Over the years, our lovely village has made itself a reputation for good food as well as good beaches, meaning you can walk from your holiday home (one of ours?!) to the bay to feed your soul, then to a restaurant to feed your body!!

Did you know, though, that Trearddur Bay also has a patron saint? Saint Ffraid was born in Ireland in about 450 AD and set up a monastery in Kildare. Legend has it that she was carried across the Irish Sea to the village on a square of green turf and set up a church here - you may even have seen the monument near the Sea Shanty restaurant! The eight foot cross is made from limestone from Moelfre Quarry and has the words 'Cross of Peace' carved at the top. Halfway down the cross, there’s a hand holding a flame, representing the light from Kildare. On each side, in English, Welsh, Latin and Irish, the words 'St Bride, Pray For Us' are inscribed.

The church itself probably stood where the promenade is today and was operating from the 1200s to the 17th century. After this, it was left to weather the forces of nature and was finally destroyed by a storm in 1913. Excavations of the site around this led to the revelation that the site had been used as a burial ground, with the discovery of remains dating back to AD 675 in 1997.

So, there you have it! Not only is Trearddur Bay a beautiful seaside location, there’s plenty of history to it as well 😍
