Did you know there are two islands—Big Diomede (Russia) & Little Diomede (USA)—that are only 2.4 miles (3.8 km) apart but have a 20-hour time difference? 🕰️

Nicknamed “Tomorrow Island” (Big Diomede) and “Yesterday Island” (Little Diomede), these two islands sit on opposite sides of the International Date Line:

🕒 Big Diomede (Russia) – GMT +12
🕒 Little Diomede (USA) – GMT -9 (or -8 during daylight saving time)

That’s a 20-hour time gap, meaning you can literally see into “yesterday” or “tomorrow” just across the water! 👀

In winter, the sea freezes, and historically, people could walk from one island to the other—from today to yesterday! However, due to modern borders, crossing isn’t allowed anymore.
