Great news, we now have a dog friendly pub within walking distance of our holiday cottages!

The Cross Keys at Cowden has got new owners in the last couple of months and they have made the very positive step of allowing dogs inside, in one part of the pub.

The pub is about a 15 minute walk from our cottages, along the pavement on the main road to Cowden.

We haven’t yet had a chance to go there ourselves with our cocker spaniel Mabel, but the folks who run the Old Post Office Tearooms opposite our cottages have been and said that it was great, including the food!

It’s a fab addition to a stay at one of our boutique cottages.

The living room in our stunning Beach House holiday cottage has always been a very special place from the moment we created it. And we’ve had a lot of guests ask us where we bought things from because they wanted to buy them for their own home.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve made a few changes to the room, which has made it even more amazing.

A simply beautiful new rocking chair, together with the most deliciously comfy footstool. What better way to relax after a day out exploring the coast than to sink into here with your feet up.

A gorgeous new rug that brings even more warmth to this most inviting of rooms. And just see how incredibly lovely it feels when you walk on it in bare feet. Bliss.

Not forgetting a stylish new coffee table, and our lovely picture montage on the wall of all things Yorkshire.

Throw in the complimentary gin bar in the room’s telephone box, and a log burner to warm the cockles of your heart, and you have relaxation heaven.

The kitchen/diner in our gorgeous Beach House holiday cottage is fabulously spacious as well as super stylish. The perfect place to chat, eat and relax with a cuppa, or a glass of something.

And we’ve been making a few changes over the last couple of weeks. Check out the funky new wallpaper and dining table, creating a truly indulgent space for eating.

Not to mention a brand new fridge/freezer and oven, as well as the cool new ombre copper kettle and toaster.

We just love this amazing space.

Well it’s been another busy year at our boutique holiday cottages, and we just wanted to say a wholehearted thank you to all the fabulous guests who chose to spend their holidays with us during 2024.

We are so grateful and have so loved welcoming you all to the cottages.

Both cottages were completely full all year round. All we ever wanted to do was to show that super dog friendly holiday cottages can be super luxurious too, providing fantastic holidays for humans and doggies alike. We are thrilled and humbled by all the amazing reviews that point to this being 'mission accomplished'! Thank you.

A visit to Dalby Forest
------------------------
We recently went to the stunning Dalby Forest, which is about an hour’s drive from the holiday cottages, in North Yorkshire. Home to over 8,500 acres of breathtaking views, as well as endless walking and cycle trails, it’s well worth the trip.

For those with dogs, it is a doggie walking paradise, with more than 30 miles of waymarked walking trails at your feet, amongst beautiful and peaceful forest scenery.

Or if you fancy something a bit faster, the forest offers you a fantastic opportunity for some great natural cycling, with 10 routes of differing ability to choose from. You can bring your own bike or hire them from the shop near the Visitor Centre.

And after exploring this beautiful place, there are a couple of cafes to relax and refuel. Perfect.

Highly recommended for a day out when you’re staying at the cottages.

Christmas and New Year can be hectic, as well as enjoyable.

Taking a short break in January and February may not always be the obvious choice, but Nicola and I, and of course our lovely cocker spaniel Mabel, have done it a few times in recent years. And we found that it’s a great way to relax after Christmas and recharge for the new year ahead.

Both of our cottages have been full in January and February over the last 3 years. But, because we’ve opened up 2025 dates later than usual this time around, we do still have some availability if you fancy a wonderful post-Christmas/New Year chillax.

Ok, the weather may be a bit cooler at that time of year, but the cottages are 100% toasty and gorgeously cosy. Plus the beach is still only yards away for those long, lazy walks, the tea room over the road is still open for a delicious hearty breakfast, and the complimentary gin bars are still fully stocked if you fancy a tasty tipple or two.

And….there’s not many people around if you feel like escaping from the world for a few days!

So many of our guests tell us that our cottages are the most dog friendly holiday cottages they’ve ever stayed in.

It’s something we’re very proud about because that’s exactly what we wanted to create when we started out just over 3 years ago. After all, the doggies want to have a fabulous holiday and enjoy it just as much as the humans, don’t they?

As dog lovers, we certainly always want our beautiful Cocker Spaniel, Mabel, to have a fantastic holiday whenever we go away.

That’s why there are no restrictions whatsoever for dogs in our cottages, they can go, sleep, lie, sit wherever takes their fancy. Not to mention fully secure gardens with high fences, outside doggie spa for washing muddy/sandy paws, plenty of space for all their doggie paraphernalia, and so much more.

And of course all doggies stay free of charge.

Plus they will have an absolute ball on the incredible, uncrowded, all-year-round dog friendly beaches less than 2 minutes’ walk away, where they can run, walk, sniff and swim till their heart’s content at low tide.

One of the very special things about our holiday cottages is their location – just yards from the glorious Mappleton beaches. Less than 2 minutes’ walk (1 minute 45 seconds to be precise!).

The beaches are so uncrowded, even in peak season. Plus they are one of the few beaches on the East Yorkshire coast that are dog friendly all year round. Making them an absolute dog walkers’ paradise, at any time of year.

And when the tide is out, they are huge, perfect for a bout of the zoomies if your doggie feels like it.
