Beautiful calm weather in the last week. A real treat after all the winter storms. The daffodils have buds and are just waiting to burst into flower.

It is a lovely calm evening here on after all the stormy weather we have had recently. Have a lovely weekend.

Hope you are having better weather on the mainland. Sitting here with 70 mph winds and torrential rain today. Reflecting on the wet spring and summer and the effect on the bees and insects.

It seems bee numbers have been lower throughout the UK this year and I suspect the numbers of Great Yellow Bumblebees here have also been impacted by the weather this year.

We are thinking of leaving part of our lawn wild next year to encourage wildflowers to provide extra habitat for bees, although only a small area, if we all do something to help bees by providing habitat it will make a difference.

In celebration of these wonderful bees we made a relaxing film of them in the Machair which you can see here. Hope you enjoy...

Uist Cat Rescue is run solely by volunteers and they urgently need funding to help with the number of cats needing rescuing. Every pound donated is spent on the cats and kittens. Please could you share this post and donate if you are able to spare anything. Every pound helps!

The November beaver moon put on a stunning display this week here in North Uist. The moonlight reflecting on the water in the bay was a wonderful sight through the kitchen window at 5.30am when I was getting a glass of water and I couldn’t resist going out to get some pictures to share with you.

After a stunning, sunny calm morning yesterday which was great for taking photos in the golden morning light today dawned very wet. A good day for writing an article on autumn birdwatching in the Outer Hebrides!

The Aurora put on a magnificent display for us here in North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. We are so lucky to be in a dark sky area and to be far enough north to see the Aurora borealis. “Steve” even put on a rare display for us. It was a stunning day here on the Island of North Uist - made even better by the sky clearing to reveal the Aurora earlier. It is a wonderful place to visit to see the Aurora, stunning scenery and wonderful wildlife.

We have had a spell of amazing weather here in North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. Significant snow is unusual here but this weeks snowfall coincided with a beautiful full moon reflecting in the sea. I took these pictures in the early hours one morning. The Outer Hebrides is a great place for night photography and I thought I would share these images with you. Have a great weekend and I hope the snow doesn't cause too many problems for you elsewhere in the UK.

We have just been looking at some of our photos of the stunning coast and beautiful Machair we have here on our doorstep on North Uist. It is good to remind ourselves that the days are just starting to get longer and spring is on the way. Before we know it the Machair flowers will be appearing along the coast and we will be swimming in the sea!
