The story of how Roughs Farm Retreats came to be may be well known for some; for others it's untold.....
The Darby family bought Roughs Farm in 1974. The Old Farmhouse, formally known as Lime Tree House and hadn't been lived in since the previous owners of Roughs Farm and tenants late 1970s, with the last tenants taking some of the original Victorian fittings back to America! It's future as a residence was doubtful as the year ticked by, subsidence (caused by the lime trees), a leaking roof and lack of glass in windows meant the only beings wanting to live there were pigeons.
Roll forwards to 2013 and the decision was made (thought mad by some) to re roof the building and to Hannah this signalled that The Old Farmhouse could have a new life and purpose as a diversified enterprise on the farm.
Returning full time to the farming business, Hannah was successful in gaining a grant for farmers to create high quality tourist accommodation and Roughs Farm Retreats was born! Following the renovation throughout 2020, Roughs Farm Retreats opened its doors in 2021.π₯³π
