Our latest photo book has arrived this morning and will be in the cottage soon for you to browse at, along with all the others we have had done over the years.
This one photographically logs the autumn and winter 24/25 period.
These little books are not only a pictorial diary of our journey with the cottage but also serve as an insight for guests to see Tomich through the seasons.
There's a wee nod to Stuart in this copy on the occasion of his 92nd birthday in January.

A growing number of Scots want to see lynx reintroduced 🐆

A new opinion poll indicates surging public support for the reintroduction of lynx to Scotland with 61% of Scots keen to see lynx return - an increase of 9 points since 2020.

The First Minister’s recent refusal to consider lynx reintroduction under his government is completely ‘out of step’ with public opinion.

As countries across Europe experience the environmental, climate, and economic benefits of lynx reintroductions - isn’t it time for Scotland to follow suit?

Why is it important to this month?

Badger cubs are born in February and are altricial. This means they are born under-developed and rely completely on parental care to survive.
Whereas dogs open their eyes at two weeks old, badger cubs have their eye and ear canals firmly shut for the first five weeks of their lives. They are so vulnerable. This is why it’s so important to all year round, but particularly now as, if the mummy badger is victim of a road collision, her tiny cubs will perish without her.

Kill your speed. Saving one badger could save a family.

Spring is just around the corner, bringing with it one of our favourite times of the year—the return of many migratory birds! Among them is the osprey (Pandion haliaetus), whose population has a stronghold in Scotland. These remarkable raptors spend the winter in West Africa, before making an epic journey of over 3,000 miles back to their breeding grounds. Arriving in Scotland from late March onwards, ospreys return to the same nesting sites year after year, often reuniting with their previous mates.

Our Spring Birds Programme offers a chance to experience the Highlands bursting into life. We still have spaces available from the 19th to 26th of April. During this week, we bid farewell to thousands of geese, ducks, and waders while welcoming back ospreys, cuckoos, and a host of other migrants. For the early risers, there’s even an opportunity to observe the lekking display of black grouse at a local reserve. Join us for an unforgettable birdwatching experience in the heart of the Scottish Highlands!
