We had the northern lights putting on a spectacular show on NYE but we didn't manage to capture any photos (I wonder why π€π) and we woke to snow on NY's Day. What a wonderful start to 2025. Wishing you all a healthy, happy and adventure packed new year. Jane, Jimmy, Emma and Mina x

As we head into 2025, it's time to reflect on the year that was 2024. A year full of wonderful guests, some new, but most returning 'friends', and in total 46 doggy visitors. We enjoyed so many nights full of Northern Lights, standing watching from the garden. But we also suffered from days of storm damage and trees down. We've made little improvements to the Steading throughout the year, and enjoyed using our own solar-panel generated electricity. We had guests celebrating birthdays, honeymoons, anniversaries and even had a few engagements π₯° We're looking forward to seeing guests, new and old, in 2025 (only a few available weeks left!), but we're closed for a while now, so it's time to rest. Mina and Emma taking the lead as you can see from the photos.
So it just leaves us to say, THANK YOU to everyone that made 2024 so great, we loved sharing Pinewood with you. And we wish you and yours a super start to the New Year. Happy Hoggers!!
Jane, Jimmy, Emma and Mina xx

Sending Christmas cheer to all our family, friends, guests, guests-to-be and followers. We spent our day in Glen Affric, bagging a Fiona, Beinn Mheadhoin, grabbing Christmas lunch on the summit and then rounding off with a swim in Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin.
We wish you and yours a most wonderful Christmas

We headed over to Strathconon (even the 19 mile single track road is a joy) for a wee Christmas Eve bimble. Just a wee 4 miler as Mina feels her arthritis these days. We came across an elusive Giant Heiland Spider, but it was very friendly, and then went for a dip in Loch Beannacharain! Happy Christmas Eve! X

8 years ago this wee mite was on the streets of Romania, was injured, hurt and untrusting. These years later, she's still having the time of her life. She's definitely looking older.. but still loves short walks, sleeping and eating, and annoying Emma. She's so loving and trusts those that love her back. She gives so much.
Happy Birthday Mina!
Otherwise known as Mina Moo Moo. Mina McTankovitch.
Here's her today having her birthday cake and a selection of recent photos

We try our best to look after our guests. Our last of the season guests came flying in, into Inverness airport, into all this snow, and ice and possibility of storms. We chatted to them about their choice of hire car and suggested they upgraded to a 4x4, winter-ready, which they did. We then spent a few hours clearing the top of the driveway so they could park up there and leave the car, not risk getting it down the long drive to find it stuck at the bottom. So when they arrived, we greeted them at the gate, sled in hand and towed their luggage down. Guests and luggage arriving safely. That's all we can ask for.

Snow on higher grounds and -2.5 makes for fun local walkies! This was the Blackfold loop and up to the Cairn where you can see the Kessock Bridge and multiple mountain ranges!

We've been so lucky with the November weather so far, I think it's actually been our summer! (Hmm. Not ideal though, thoughts of global warming swarming around my head..). But we've been out and about enjoying it, locally and further afield. Autumn really is a great (my favourite) time of year to visit.

Well, this post is being written by the 'other half' of Pinewood Steading as Jane clearly wasn't going to post this one... But we are so proud of her in that once AGAIN, she's been recognised as one of the Top 100 Women in Tourism!
She joins many of her Scottish Tourism friends, for this peer nominated award. Many don't know that Jane is a Board Director of Visit Inverness Loch Ness, as well as the Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers. She also spends a lot of time working with fellow self caterers locally and across the Highlands, with networking, helping with their marketing, helping them to navigate all the changes in self-catering like the STL licence. And runs Pinewood Steading very successfully, that most people coming back are repeats!
The fluffs and I are really proud of you, mummy! Well done!
Weβre absolutely delighted to introduce the 2024 Top 100 Women In Tourism!! Peer-nominated, the Top 100 was first launched back in 2018, and this is the fourth edition of this important initiative. This year we received 250 nominations β the highest level since we created the Top 100! Those work...

This is Emma and Mina's nod to 5th November, Guy Fawkes Day. But they're lucky they don't have to hear any fireworks going off and being scared (that said, Emma is deaf now so wouldn't hear them anyway, but she knows when Mina is upset). So they just ask that if folks anywhere set them off, to please help other dogs, cats, livestock, wild animals etc, and use silent fireworks. Thank you π₯°π₯πππ΄π¦ππΎ

Not many folks think to go to Inverness or nearby for a walk, but it does actually have some great places to visit. This one took in a coastal walk starting under the Kessock Bridge, via the quaint village of Kilmuir (this section dependent on tide but there is an alternative) and up to Ord Hill!

We've had such great autumnal weather that we decided to drive 1.5hrs west on the weekend over to Kintail for a walk up Sgurr an Airgid (a Corbett), with the girls. Both really enjoyed it, especially the views and the snow at the top! This could be a good walk for our more keen walking guests and such a beautiful drive.

More fabulous posy photos from this gang who visit twice yearly, have for many years, and already booked for 2025. We are so grateful. They love hanging out in the enclosed garden and enjoying the views. See you soon!

Two great photos from our recent guests who were newbies to Pinewood. They stayed for a week but wished it had been 2! We hope to be able to welcome them back another time. We're also very grateful for the review they left on Google. Thank you!

When the Steading guests ping you a message about 11.30pm to say the Aurora is out and would I like to join them. I nip out quickly in my dressing gown and stay a short while. These are the photos they took (remembering the camera always picks up more than the eye). But even with the clouds, it was a great show last night. I quite prefer it with clouds!

Earlier in 2018, we achieved our Silver Award from Green Tourism - and in November 2018 we were awarded our Gold! We strongly believe in doing our bit to improve the environment and reducing our contribution to global warming. We have strived where possible to use practices that support these principles. As a family and a business, we are also committed to protecting our own wonderful surroundings and environment. Indeed, we selected the site for its natural beauty, a great location for our business, and the siteβs potential for environmental improvement.
Pinewood Steading is also all on one level (bar one small step down into the kitchen) and is spacious and roomy for those who may have mobility issues. The car park is located by the Steading and has a path with ramp right up to the front door.
