Just a short drive from the capital of the Highlands, or 10 minutes from the quaint village of Beauly, Pinewood Steading combines the peace and tranquillity of a rural setting with easy access to modern amenities. Pinewood has captivating and uninterrupted views over the Beauly Firth, across to Ben Wyvis, Strathfarrar and beyond - on a clear day you can see the mountains of Torridon. A great locat
ion for the nature lover too, with so many wild birds in the garden, pheasants, and look out for red squirrels! Pinewood Steading sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom is particularly large with king-size bed and a cathedral window; second bedroom with two twins or one superking. The sitting room has a log burner; with a breakfast bar leading into the large, well equipped kitchen with a view overlooking the rolling countryside down to the Beauly Firth. The garden is enclosed with the most stunning uninterrupted views for miles. Dogs are very welcome at no extra charge. We also hold a Gold Award for Green Tourism. By being here, you are ideally situated for exploring the stunning Highlands of Scotland - Glen Affric, considered the most beautiful Glen in Scotland, is only a short drive, as is Strathconon and Strathfarrar and Loch Ness is only 5 miles away. There are wonderful walks from the door and nearby like Reelig Wood and Abriachan too. For outdoor enthusiasts, as well as all the walking and munro bagging, you can ski, canoe and kayak, rock climb and mountain bike. For tourist attractions, take a cruise on Loch Ness and visit Urquhart Castle. If you like history, visit Culloden Battlefield and Fort William. You could spend a whole day on the Black Isle - Chanonry point for dolphin watching, visit the port of Cromarty, sample some beer at the Black Isle Brewery, or take a walk along the beach at Rosemarkie. For hitting the city, Inverness, is a 20 minute drive away, with all it's shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, leisure facilities, Eden Court Theatre, Inverness castle and museum. There are even lovely walks in the city, so plan a stroll around the Ness Islands. Come and enjoy the peace and tranquillity or pursue outdoor activities, coming home after a good day out to relax in the charm of Pinewood Steading. Licence number: HI-50043-F

Not many folks think to go to Inverness or nearby for a walk, but it does actually have some great places to visit. This one took in a coastal walk starting under the Kessock Bridge, via the quaint village of Kilmuir (this section dependent on tide but there is an alternative) and up to Ord Hill!

We've had such great autumnal weather that we decided to drive 1.5hrs west on the weekend over to Kintail for a walk up Sgurr an Airgid (a Corbett), with the girls. Both really enjoyed it, especially the views and the snow at the top! This could be a good walk for our more keen walking guests and such a beautiful drive.

More fabulous posy photos from this gang who visit twice yearly, have for many years, and already booked for 2025. We are so grateful. They love hanging out in the enclosed garden and enjoying the views. See you soon!

Two great photos from our recent guests who were newbies to Pinewood. They stayed for a week but wished it had been 2! We hope to be able to welcome them back another time. We're also very grateful for the review they left on Google. Thank you!

When the Steading guests ping you a message about 11.30pm to say the Aurora is out and would I like to join them. I nip out quickly in my dressing gown and stay a short while. These are the photos they took (remembering the camera always picks up more than the eye). But even with the clouds, it was a great show last night. I quite prefer it with clouds!

Lots to celebrate this week at Pinewood Steading, as one of our returning guests is about to complete bagging all of his 282 Munros! Here's his fridge magnet message displaying 5 to go, and as at the time of writing this page, he has 3 to go and will be completing them all tomorrow! And the very same for our own Jimmy, who has 1 to go (Beinn Sgritheall) and aims to complete it this weekend. Well done to both, what a huge achievement!
For those that don't know, a Munro is a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 feet (914.4 m) - and folks who get up them are called "Munro Baggers"! Pinewood is ideally located to adventure up a load of Munros, and other mountains called Corbetts and Fionas too! And if you prefer something a little different, like a local walk, forest walk, coastal, or a walk with a cafe, or a secret swim spot - we love to recommend those to our guests too.

Aren't these 2 beauties! The wonderful Siryn and Tabi have returned for their holiday. They've been enjoying the local walks, like Abriachan. There's no fee for dogs when they visit, and they have a private and enclosed garden overlooking miles and miles of uninterrupted countryside and beautiful views. There's some wee treats too! We also have leads, collars, beds, towels, bowls etc in case you forget something, and also a doggy first aid kit (hopefully won't be needed).

Last night was a special night. The Aurora (Northern Lights), she was popping! They said all the right solar activity meant it could be the best in 20 years and she was captured right across the UK, as far as Cornwall. I think England got the best shots as it was darker but we managed these atop a path less heathery hill, staying out til 1am. Just snaps from our phone. The entire sky above us was on fire and so much purple! She radiated out in a beautiful arc. In many photos captured by others, she looks like an angel. Thank you Mother Nature

The return of the Famous Four! So fab to see Elvis, Blaze, Matilda and Luca back at Pinewood. These doggies come a couple of times a year and have been for many years now! Maybe it's the location for the dog walks, or the private enclosed garden with amazing views, that they like to play in. Or the special treats that get left for them. Or maybe the fact that dogs come for free means mum and dad can use the money to buy more toys 😂🥰 either way, we love having this lot here!

No April Fools jokes today 😂 just wishing everybody a super 1st April, wherever you are and whatever you are doing!

It's Emma's 14th birthday today! Or she could actually be older! We took her into our home and hearts 12 years ago today and they thought she may have been 2 years old, but could be more! Either way, she's in great shape for her age. Here she is tucking into her birthday cake. Please join me in wishing her a woofy day!

The Northern Lights were back last night in huge style! There have been some fantastic photos posted all over social media. I stood in the garden for a while and watched but these were taken by our friend Morag, over the Beauly Firth at Inverness. Just to show that even in areas of quite a lot of light pollution, you can still get a good showing!

We really love our views, as do all our guests! What a view to come back to after a day out: sit and look out at miles and miles of uninterrupted countryside, or stand at the kitchen sink (washing up maybe, although we do have a dishwasher 😂) and look out towards the Beauly Firth.
From your enclosed and private garden or from the many windows in the Steading, you can enjoy stunning views of the Beauly Firth and the Black Isle, Ben Wyvis, and the hills of Strathfarrar. On a clear day you can see the mountains of Torridon.

We were so excited to see this air on BBC the other night! The Apprentice (do you watch it?) was filmed at some of the wonderful places right here in our part of the Highlands. Sharing this post from our friends at Achnagairn Estate. Other locations included (my favourite) Cawdor Castle, and Culloden House, Bogbain Farm, and the adventure team from In Your Element.
If you watched the recent series of Traitors (??), you'll have seen that was filmed nearby too at Ardross Castle. We were very lucky to visit that for a family wedding a few years back.
Both these programmes highlighted the wonderful scenery, landscape, people and communities of the Highlands!

Such a winter wonderland today, at least 4 inches overnight and more to come. Took the girls for a wee bimble through the fields and to check out the roads. Time to light the fire and coorie down down! It was a great sunrise this morning. Remember you can check out the view in real time by viewing our live we**am! www.visitinvernesslochness.com/live-stream

Getting out into the hills on day 2 of 2024. A 45mins drive to Carr-Bridge to get into the Cairngorms. We did a 10 miler to summit Càrn Glas-choire, a really nice and easy track on the way up. We went off piste for some of the return but you could easily retrace your steps and keep it easy. Lots of snow and ice today. Super weather, so mild and amazing views across the Cairngorm mountain plateau

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful time seeing in the bells.
After a late night.. we started the year with a local walk to Strathfarrar. Picture perfect!

What a fabulous year, 2023, with so many amazing guests, new and old, and furry friends too! Yet again we loved sharing hidden gems, introducing guests to wild swimming, providing walking ideas, recommending amazing eateries and sharing our thoughts for the best attractions and historical sites. As we sit in the Steading ourselves tonight with parents from both sides, we'll raise a glass to friends, and new friends to come.

As we head towards 2024, we'd like to take this time to thank our wonderful local suppliers for providing all their amazing goodies for our guest welcome hamper.
As well as veg from our garden, we work with the amazing Kev and his team at Inverness Coffee Roasting Co for coffee, ground especially for us! Also, Debbie and Andrew, the chocolate duo from The Chocolate Place. Katrina, for her wonderful jams and marmalades (and sometimes shortbread) from Rose Cottage Country Kitchen. And Debbie at The Keltic Kitchen for fudge. Not forgetting Donna with the best, tastiest crackers I've ever had, at HighlandCrackers - but sadly no more for 2024 as Donna is retiring!
You can order online directly, from most of these local suppliers, so do look them up! We look forward to working with them all again next year. Thank you 😍💚

It was such a stunning day today for Boxing Day. Snow still laying on the ground from Christmas Day, bright blue cloudless sky, and a crisp temperature. Time to take the family, guests and girls up to Abriachan to take in the views. With the roads very snowy and icy, we stayed local, a 15 mins drive.
26/12/2023
We had a white Christmas! It started snowing yesterday and is still on the ground this morning. Not enough to make a snowman, but Christmas guests were very happy!
25/12/2023
From our family to yours, we wish you all a super Christmas!
Enjoy those mince pies, that mushroom wellington, a glass of mulled wine and all those Christmas chocolates!
And from Emma and Mina acting out Away in a Manger down in Reelig Glen, they wish all their doggy friends a wonderful festive time too! X

The Naughty Elves came to visit over the last few weeks and started to misbehave once the Christmas countdown started! We take elves, as well as dogs, for no extra cost 🤣🥰 Thanks to our regular guests for sending us these to use.

A wonderful day yesterday in such beautiful winter weather. We took a drive across the Struie Viewpoint and into Sunningdale for a short walk to Loch Migdale. There are miles and miles of paths here but we choose a short one as swimming was the goal. Air temp -4. Water temp about 2. Then over to for a Xmas lunch, yum. What a day 🥰

We are in the midst of veg and polytunnel planning right now! Deciding which veg to grow, how much, where to put it. Getting seedlings ready. Preparing the ground. But we've already got winter broad beans, garlic and peas on the go. With some chard, kale and leeks still growing from last year. And then I remembered what the enclosed garden looked like, once we had finished building it and before we really started planting. See this great drone footage from our friend Sandy (2019). There's now 2 extra veg beds on the left and the polytunnel has been erected at the back.

Earlier in 2018, we achieved our Silver Award from Green Tourism - and in November 2018 we were awarded our Gold! We strongly believe in doing our bit to improve the environment and reducing our contribution to global warming. We have strived where possible to use practices that support these principles. As a family and a business, we are also committed to protecting our own wonderful surroundings and environment. Indeed, we selected the site for its natural beauty, a great location for our business, and the site’s potential for environmental improvement.
Pinewood Steading is also all on one level (bar one small step down into the kitchen) and is spacious and roomy for those who may have mobility issues. The car park is located by the Steading and has a path with ramp right up to the front door.
