Our coast-to-coast adventure in the Scottish Highlands is an adventure in every sense of the word.

Starting in the east coast village of Bonar Bridge, you’ll ride over 250km of wild, rugged landscape to reach your final destination on the Applecross Peninsula. Tough climbs, long days and wet feet will all be well rewarded with some of the most spectacular descents in the world.

This week, we’re turning the spotlight onto our fantastic international guide team! Up first is qualified vet-turned mountain bike guide in Slovenia, Blaž!

“After qualifying as a vet, I spent many years working as a coach in the pharmaceuticals industry before realising that my destiny lay in the mountains, rather than the office.

“I still wanted to use my coaching skills, so now I can combine these skills with my passion for mountain biking, as a guide and trainer.

“Being able to spend a week or more with like-minded people, sharing my favourite trails in Slovenia, and seeing riders improve their skills and grow in confidence day-by-day is the most satisfying feeling I know."

Sharing the trails with Blaž is an absolute pleasure, and we can’t wait to head back to Slovenia in 2025 to make some more memories!

📣What’s your job at H+I Adventures?

I’m co-founder of H+I Adventures. My guiding days are now few and far between, so my main focus is on tour and business development. This means travelling the world to find exciting new destinations and crafting all the little details that go into every adventure. It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it!

📣What's your favourite tour/destination that we ride in and why?

It has to be Bhutan. The trails are out of this world, the culture is so strong and special, and its landscapes are breathtaking. The people are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I have ever met. I’m looking forward to heading back out there next year for the next International Yeti Gathering!

📣 How long have you been riding for?

30+ years!

📣 What's your favourite trail snack?

Jelly sweets.

📣 What is an interesting fact about you?

I make the best coffee in the office, just ask any of our HQ staff!

We’re H+I and we’re made from adventure. We believe that it shapes us, moulds us, and makes us who we are. That’s why we specialise in crafting life-affirming mountain bike and e-mountain bike tours worldwide. That’s all we do.

H+I Adventures grew from a passion for mountain bike travel and a desire to do things better. The traditional style of mountain bike travel – shuttle up, ride down, and repeat – didn’t excite us. As people who lived to travel and immerse ourselves in new places and cultures, we were looking for more.

We wanted to craft our own mountain bike tours that reflected and fuelled our passion for experiencing the world on two wheels. Most importantly, this meant they had to be developed with and led by expert local guides.

Together, we painstakingly craft, not only the routes you’ll ride, but every aspect of your adventure – from the finest local food and drink, to the most welcoming accommodations – carefully orchestrating extraordinary experiences that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Here at H+I, we’ve been excited all week to welcome riders back to the Kingdom of Bhutan for another spiritual adventure, starting Sunday.

It’s had us reminiscing on our last visit to Bhutan in April. We were joined by Kristina, who travelled all the way from Australia to experience trails few have ever ridden.

“There’s no feeling quite like reaching the bottom of the trail, everyone grinning from ear to ear, knowing that we survived another wild ride. And believe it or not, that’s just the warm-up for the morning. After filling our bellies with a picnic lunch, we’re off to tackle the next adventure.”

As Co-Founder and CEO, my role is to oversee marketing, customer service, sales and look after our staff at H+I Adventures.

📣 What's your favourite tour/destination that we ride in and why?

That's like asking to pick a favourite child! I genuinely don't have a favourite tour because they're all special in their own way. I love the culture and warmth of the people in Morocco; the diversity of trails in Chile; the food, riding and laid-back vibe of Tuscany; and the completely unique experience of mountain biking through the desert of Namibia, amongst elephant, giraffe, kudu…

📣 How long have you been riding for?

Longer than I care to admit! 20 years this year - how did that happen?!

📣 What's your favourite trail snack?

I like a substantial snack bar with lots of nuts, raisins, maybe a bit of chocolate.

📣 What is an interesting fact about you?

Hm, I don't know... I’m a bit of a foodie and you’ll probably find me at my most animated when eating!

Time to meet Matt, our Operations Specialist here at H+I adventures!

📣 What do you do at H+I Adventures?

As Operations Specialist, my role divides my time between working with our international team of partners and guides, as well as organising all of our adventures here in Scotland.

📣 What's your favourite tour/destination that we ride in and why?

Hmmm - would have to say BC, or Chile! The trails, wildlife and indigenous culture of BC is not to be missed! BC is one of those places that can be easily ticked off a bucket list, or if you're willing to go a little off the beaten track will lead you to the most amazing views, encounters and experiences.

📣How long have you been riding for?

Properly mountain biking since I was 16 - so that's 19 years. Although living and riding in BC definitely ramped up my progression in the past 10 years.

📣What's your favourite trail snack?

Dried fruit, nut and chocolate mix!

📣What is an interesting fact about you?

My dad made me learn to juggle fire when I was about 11 - an essential life skill! I can also ride a bike backwards while sitting on the handlebars - so if everything else fails, I'm joining the circus!

Dan and Karen have ridden all over the world with us. This summer, they chose to climb high into the alpine and struck gold in the Yukon Territory of Canada!

“We’ve had the chance to do a few H+I trips and always seemed to be dazzled by the fancy new outing and clicked past Yukon. Well, that was stupid - what an amazing destination!

“I was blown away by the quality + variety of the riding between Whitehorse and Carcross. Literally something for everyone - at some point during the week you’re going to ride your new favorite trail, likely a couple of times. The accommodations + food are not far behind.”

Sitting at a staggering 11,300ft, Margy’s Hut can be found deep in the backcountry of Aspen, Colorado. Part of the 10th Mountain Division, it has been a safe haven for adventurous skiers, hikers and bikers since 1982. The hut has no electricity, making it the perfect place to strip back to basics and to disconnect from the outside world.

With the help of your expert local guide, Colin, you’ll make your way to Margy's Hut for an evening high above the treeline. We’ll enjoy a delicious meal by the fire as we fuel up for what is sure to be an epic descent the next day.

Summer is great, but it can sometimes feel a bit frenzied as you try to pack in as much as possible before days start getting cooler and shorter.
That’s why we have a fondness for the fall, when things are a bit more chilled, and you can take time to enjoy your riding without that background hum of ‘summer vacation’.
It’s also the best time to explore certain places - without the crowds, without the intense heat - and here are our favourite places to ride e-mountain bikes in autumn:

🇮🇹 Tuscany - Olive groves, vineyards, islands, and mile upon mile of sensational singletrack, ideal for e-mountain bikes. On this E-MTB tour in coastal Tuscany you’ll indulge in all of the finer things in life: delicious local food and wines; exceptional riding; and traditional Tuscan accommodation, complete with private pool. It’s the perfect balance between old and new; hard work and ample reward.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Skye + Raasay - For a final fling before long nights descend upon the Scottish Highlands, you can join us for our epic Skye + Raasay adventure in September. This 4-day, action-packed MTB tour has been our most popular Scottish trip this year, and for good reason. Starting in the west coast fishing village of Plockton, on mainland Highlands, you’ll then head first to the Isle of Skye, then to the Isle of Raasay, taking in the most spectacular scenery and unique transport to get there.

This EMTB adventure strikes the perfect balance of riding and relaxation for keen e-mountain bikers. Picture you and your crew cruising down the fast and loose coastal trails of Massa Marritima, to end the day at your traditional Tuscan farmhouse, complete with private pool!

5. The Ultimate MTB Experience, Namibia

Experiences rarely come as magical as this, especially when shared with your best friends. H+I Adventures: Setting the standard in international mountain bike and e-mountain bike travel.

If you’re not happy with the situation, change it. That’s what we did when we created H+I Adventures, back in 2007. Mountain bike travel in the early days was unimaginative and uninspiring: shuttle up, ride down, stay in a chalet… rinse and repeat.

As people who lived to travel with our mountain bikes and immerse ourselves in new places and cultures, this wasn’t good enough for us. So, we decided to disrupt the status quo, start afresh and set about crafting our very own international mountain bike adventures; ones that really fuelled and reflected our passion for experiencing the world on two wheels.

More importantly, we wanted these to be experiences that we would be proud to share with other adventurous mountain bikers – like you. Because, as we all know, there’s nothing better than the elation of exceeding (what you thought were) your own limits, then looking around to see that same feeling etched on the faces of all your riding buddies.
