Stanford House is a heritage property in Inverness right beside the river Ness. Built in 1909.

Stanford House oozes character and catches everyone’s eye from the river path. It’s a real treat to stay in one of Inverness’ historic homes. Stanford House enjoys views up river to Inverness Castle, which is only 10 minutes’ walk from the house along a lovely river path. It is in fact striking how close everything in Inverness is to the property. There are fabulous restaurants and cafés only a few minutes’ walk away and there’s a brilliant waterside pub offering great bar meals a stone’s throw from the house. Not only is it an outstanding base for a city break in this charming, historic little city, Stanford House is an excellent option for those wanting to explore the Highlands. Inverness is the Highland Capital and all roads lead in and out of the city. So, from Stanford House you can explore a different part of the Highlands each day of your holiday. The Black Isle one day, Cairngorms the next, Loch Ness to follow and the Isle of Skye for a day. The options are endless, the Highlands are your oyster.

The house itself offers a great standard of accommodation. Entering the property through the historic vestibule there’s a formal living room on the right with views out to the river and city. Towards the back of the house there is a dining room with second living room area, which has a TV and wood burner. The kitchen is right at the back of the house and has access to a courtyard garden. There’s also a convenient downstairs toilet under the stairs. On the first floor there are three bedrooms, a double, a single and a double with single, so Stanford House comfortably sleeps six people. The house will suit a family or friends wanting an excellent base in the Highland capital for a minimum of three nights. It’s an excellent base from which to explore the city, its surrounds and the wider Highlands.

🎆 A New Year is just around the corner 🎆

🤔 What is the difference between Hogmanay and New Year?

3️⃣1️⃣Hogmanay is New Year's Eve (31 December) and New Year is referring to New Year's Day (1 January). Hogmanay celebrations in Scotland often continue into New Year's Day and even to the 2 January.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Hogmanay' is the Scottish word for the last day of the year and is associated with New Year's Eve and the celebrations that come with it.

👸🏼It is still unsure where the name originated from, but it is believed the word may have come about during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots and thought to be derived from the French word 'Hoginane' meaning 'gala day'.

❓Will you be Joining us for Hogmanay?

Sneak peek of the Journey Stone at the new Inverness Castle Experience! ✨

When the beautifully redesigned gardens on the castle esplanade open, visitors will be greeted by the Journey Stone—a unique and symbolic wayfinding marker welcoming everyone to the Highlands. Made possible by the generous support of Global Energy Group, the Journey Stone will mark the start or end of an unforgettable journey.

Its striking design by Mather & Co.—crafted from static steel cut panels set into Caithness stone—will create a dynamic ‘open doorway’ effect, symbolising the openness of the Highlands and the transitions we experience along the way—a perfect metaphor for exploration and discovery.

Surrounded by benches, the area will provide a perfect spot to rest, take in the breathtaking views of Inverness, and reflect on your travels.
