A Blether with Andrew Smith
Little Brown Dog have come a long way since our last online blether with Andrew, which is one reason we were keen to get him back to chat about their incredible journey.
Andrew's fourth appearance (a record!) as a guest on the Blether, however it is his first as officially (as per Scottish Whisky Awards 2024) the best Independent Bottler in the business.
We were delighted for Andrew and Chris, partly because they are genuinely lovely guys, partly because they are very local to us in Inverurie, but mostly because we feel that they deserve the accolade after yet another year of incredible spirits.
Join us for a Blether about all things whisky, gin, brandy and whatever else comes up in yet another unpredictable Blether.
Thursday, 16th January, Live at 7.30pm!
A Blether with Karen McWilliam
We are back!
After a wee break over Christmas and New Year we are delighted to be back and able to share some stories and drams with you lovely lot!
We hope you all had a great time over the holidays and your good behaviour earned you some treats at Christmas.
This week our guest is Karen McWilliam of Drams with Karen. Karen is currently also working with us at Inverurie Whisky Shop and has been entertaining our customers with her expertise in tasting events. As a career Vistor Centre Host and Manager, Karen has deep-set roots in Scotlands whisky. Her touring career took her from GlenDronach to GlenAllachie and then Strathisla. She also hosts her own tastings from her home venue and we are chuffed that she has agreed to join us for some drams and a blether this coming Thursday.
Join us, with a dram in hand from 7.30pm - Live on both Facebook and YouTube
A Blether with Finn Thomson, Founder of Finn Thomson Whiskies
When a family makes a claim to be the oldest known family in the whisky business, it's sometimes hard to take them seriously, but when that family has records of NINE generations, going back to 1752, it's an incredible case to put forward.
On Thursday, we chat to the latest member of the Thomson family to either make, bottle or blend whisky throughout the last 250 or so years.
Finn Thomson joins us to tell us the wonderful story of his family, and why he felt passionate about joining the generational trail led by his forefathers in the last Blether of 2024.
Please join us, with a dram of your best, as we talk all things whisky with Finn, from 7.30pm on Thursday 12th December.
A Blether with Tor Peter and Colin of Aurora Distillery
Aurora Spirit is the northernmost distillery in the world at 69.39°N. Set deep within the arctic circle the distillery and visitors centre is at Årøybukt in Lyngen, northern Norway, which during the Cold War was a NATO coastal fort.
The distillery was built in 2015 and opened as a visitor attraction in summer 2016. The distillery is set in the beautiful surroundings of the impressive Lyngen Alps and next to the Arctic Lyngen fjord.
We are delighted to have the Managing Director, Colin Houston, and CEO, Tor Petter W. Christensen on as our guests at a hugely exciting time for the distillery - the launch of a brand new whisky!
Yggdrasil sold out in Norway in around 6 minutes, and our initial pre orders sold out in a little under an hour - but don't worry, there's exciting news being announced during the show on Thursday!
Grab your favourite dram and join us from 7.30pm for a Blether with the most Northen Distillers on the planet!
A Blether with Rosalind Erskine
Our guest tonight wears various hats - thankfully none of them are as hipster as Mikes bonnet though!
Rosalind is a Glasgow-based magazine editor turned digital editor, content creator and broadcaster who has plied her trade in some of the biggest cities in the world including London and Dubai.
Currently Rosalind writes about all things Scottish food and drink for the Scotsman. She also co-created and hosts the newspaper’s successful podcast "Scran". Guests on this food and drink focused podcast include Outlander star Sam Heughan, Bake Off winner Peter Sawkins, celebrity chef Michel Roux Junior and Inverurie's very own master blender Dr Rachel Barrie - so no pressure for us tonight then!
In 2025, she will be joining the judging panel for The Spirit of Speyside.
Join us tonight from 7.30pm for an interesting chat about not just whisky, but all things food and drink!
A Blether with Ingvar Ronde, author of the Malt Whisky Yearbook
Join Cat and Mike as we get to meet Ingvar Ronde, author and creator of the Malt Whisky Yearbook.
A must for all whisky fans, the Malt Whisky Yearbook was launched in 2006 and has been an annual visitor to our shelves ever since. It is an absolute bible of all things whisky.
We get to know Ingvar, his stories and methods as well as answering your questions, not only on the book itself, but on anything at all!
So pour yourself a dram and join us at 7.30pm for an evening of all things whisky, and most likely, some random chat too.
A Blether with the Dramathon Team
Whisky and running don't exactly go hand in hand (or foot...?) at first glance, however Ian and Jon, founders of The Dramathon have found a way of bringing the two hobbies together.
Combining their enthusiasm for whisky and running (they admit that they each excel in one over the other), with the beauty of Speyside's countryside, the pair have managed to create a unique experience that is fun, inclusive and professional.
Join us for a dram (running optional) this Thursday from 7.30pm as we discuss the potential and the influential factors behind the event. To find out more about the Dramathon itself, you can copy and paste this https://www.thedramathon.com/ into your browser.
A Blether about Whisky Ghouls: A Halloween Special
Join us for a fun evening of whisky, witches and werewolves this Thursday evening as we celebrate Halloween in this special blether.
Mike and Cat will be taking a look at their favourite ghost stories from the world of whisky, their influence on whiskies released and on the distilleries themselves.
Have you encountered a whisky ghost? What's your favourite spirit of the spirit story? Join us with your ghoulish opinions on Thursday night from 7.30pm! Fancy dress optional, drams preferred!
A Blether with Dave Broom
There are few legends of the whisky world as well regarded as Dave Broom, and we are delighted to welcome him along to blether with us this Thursday evening.
A former publican, Dave's roots in the spirit world come from more than a mere passing passion. Having written many books not just about whisky, but also rum, gin and others, Dave has become a real authority on the subject.
A multi-award winning author and communicator, Dave's adventures aren't limited to the written word, with the 2020 launch of his film, The Amber Light a highlight of my own Covid Whisky journey.
Dave's qualities lie in his ability to take what is being done in the world of whisky, and present it to the fans, acting as a spokesperson, championing (and sometimes challenging) the work of the distillers.
We can't wait to welcome Dave onto the blether as our guest, so join us live on our YouTube or Facebook channel on Thursday, 24th October at 7.30pm!
A Blether with Craig MacRitchie Distillery Manager of Glenwyvis
We return to hosting guests in this weeks blether, and are delighted to welcome Craig MacRitchie of Glenwyvis Distillery to the show!
Craig was the first employee of the distillery, joining them in 2015, and has worked tirelessly to become the Distillery Manager.
Whisky is in Craig's blood (figuratively - mostly) with his Grandfather working in the industry for over 30 years with Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich. We can't wait to hear his insights on the creation of the Community-owned distillery and how the project has progressed from concept to bottle.
Remember to pour yourself a dram and join us on Thursday, 7.30pm, for more whisky chat and to find out about the team behind the exciting distillery.
A Blether About Debunking our Favourite Whisky Myths
We don't have a guest this week, so instead Mike and Cat will be looking at some favourite whisky stories and debunking the myths behind them.
Have you visited a distillery and been wowed by stories of romance, history and guile? Have you heard something that you think doesn't sit quite right?
Well we'll pick a few of our favourites and try to remove the mystery or debunk the myth behind the story.
We'll look forward to hearing your favourite myths too - is there any that you've heard that you later discovered to be untrue? Let us know in the comments and we'll talk about them live!
Join us at 7.30pm on our Youtube or Facebook channels for an evening of blethering, with a dram as well, of course!
A Blether with Marcos McCurley of North Star Spirits
North Start Spirits are relatively new to the Inverurie Whisky Shop, however are well known in the whisky community for producing excellent quality and fair prices - almost a rarity these days!
They have most recently hit the headlines with the announcement of their Campbeltown Distillery, Dal Riata.
We are delighted to return to your homes via our online blether and have the fantastic Marcos McCurley on hand to talk to us, and you, about all things whisky.
Of course, Marcos will be able to answer (some) questions on the new distillery, but we also love to get to know the people behind the brand too - so we hope to hear more about Marcos' personal whisky journey.
Have your drams ready for the new, slightly later time of 7.30pm as we enjoy an hour or so of unedited, live whisky blethering.
