It's time for some more updates from A&P Falmouth, where Balmoral is currently in dry dock... 🛳️

- A digital photo gallery is being added to replace the current photo walls.

- The different-coloured sections of our anchors are being repainted – these are to show the team how far the anchor has gone down when we are anchored.

- Any steel that is showing signs of corrosion is being replaced.

- New central computer systems have been set up in the Neptune Lounge to allow us to organise audio, lighting and the new LED walls during our shows.

- A number of valves in Balmoral's hull have been taken out for maintenance.

- The main engines are being overhauled to ensure optimal performance.

We hope you're enjoying these updates from Balmoral during her dry dock!

Doug Glenwright, Guest Experience Director, says “We are delighted to have been recognised for our commitment to the many solo guests we welcome aboard our fleet each year. We're excited to share some updates from Balmoral, where she is currently in Dry Dock with A&P Falmouth… 🛳️

- Works on the Thistle Restaurant have begun! Fixtures & fittings of Palms Café have been removed in preparation for the new design and décor to be installed.

- The antifouling paint on the underwater hull has been removed and the surface treated. With a new silicon-based, state of the art antifouling paint, the below waterplane area will be smoother than ever, resulting in less energy spent to push the ship through the water and therefore less emissions. 🌊

- Lifeboats have been landed to undergo general maintenance and upgrades.

- The Neptune Lounge has begun a full technical refurbishment with new LED walls, lighting and sound systems.

- Fuel, ballast, portable water and grey water tanks are being emptied, cleaned, inspected and recertified.

- WiFi coverage and access points are being worked on, so guests will have better access to the Internet when on balconies and out on our open decks. 🛜

- A new propeller, with an optimised design to improve energy efficiency and minimise emissions, will be fitted.

Make sure to check back for further updates on Balmoral's dry dock progress at A&P Falmouth!

Over the weekend, our smallest ship Balmoral arrived in A&P Falmouth for her two-week dry dock. 🛳️

Every few years, ships go into dry dock for maintenance works, ensuring everything is kept running well, and allowing us to service parts of our ships that are usually below the waterline.

During the next two weeks, Balmoral will undergo a programme of repairs and refurbishments, both in the dock bottom and on her interiors, before she continues taking our guests on exciting cruises all over the world. 💙

Watch this space, as we'll share updates with you along the way!

Earlier this year, we teamed up with Suffolk-based brewer and distiller Adnams to host a nine-year-old cask that was in its final year of maturation. 🛳️

The cask embarked on Borealis' 103-night World Cruise, where the movement of the ocean helped the limited-edition spirit, Amplitude, reach optimal flavour by churning the whisky, increasing its interaction with the wood of the barrel. We're so excited to say it has now been decanted and hand-bottled and can now be purchased on board. 🥃

There's just over 200 bottles remaining across the fleet, so don't miss your chance to purchase one!

Our Story

Whoever said that “bigger is better”? Not us. While the cruise industry has gone for bigger ships brimming with more and more people, we’ve always believed that small is better. Because smaller ships bring big benefits. They mean we can treat passengers as guests, like the family-run business we are. They can dock at smaller ports, much closer to the parts of our planet we’re most passionate about showing. They mean we can avoid overcrowding, both aboard and ashore, so our guests can disembark easily and enjoy the freedom to see, explore and experience. They mean we can offer warmer, more personal levels of service. It would be easy to scale up, cram in and cut corners, but we never will. Because to us, the size we are is the size we should be.
