Next month our smallest ship Balmoral will be going into Dry Dock, a process where ships are taken out of water for maintenance and refurbishment works. Dry docks are essential for keeping ships in top shape and ensuring they're safe and efficient to sail. 🛳️

We’re excited to share that in this Dry Dock, we will also be making some improvements to Balmoral’s hotel areas. Following guest feedback, The Palms Café will be transformed into the Thistle Restaurant – A fresh, new space where each section embodies a different season of the year.

With a new layout, refreshed seating areas and updated buffet and beverage stations, we’re really excited to share updates with you along the way as the Thistle Restaurant comes to life...

We're thrilled to announce the opening of a new shop on our sister ships, Borealis and Bolette, featuring a varied selection of duty-free drinks. 🍾

Here, you'll find all your favourite brands, along with our very own Aquavit – the national drink of Norway, and a limited-edition Adnams whisky matured on board Borealis during the 2024 World Cruise.

This selection awaits you in the former Jewellery Shop on Deck 5, mid-ship, while our Jewellery collection is now available in the Boutiques.

On Remembrance Sunday, we pause to honour and remember the brave individuals who served and sacrificed for our freedom. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

We stand with our guests, crew, and communities to pay tribute to those who served. 🌹

Thank you to our talented galley team, who have made these wreaths from marzipan to mark their respects.

We’re eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s launch of our new Summer 2026 sailings, and we hope you're just as excited as we are!🛳️☀️

In recent months, we’ve gathered feedback from our guests to understand what’s working and where we can improve. One key insight we've gained is how challenging it can be to know how and when to secure the best price for your cruise, and the frustration you can feel when you book early only to see a lower fare later.

With this in mind, we’re proud to launch our Freedom Fare Price Promise. Watch below as our Guest Experience Director Doug explains more...

Our smallest ship, Balmoral, recently passed under the Sandnessund Bridge, just 41 metres high, near Tromso in Norway. 🛳️

This bridge is out of reach to larger ships due to the height restriction, but Balmoral is small enough to sail here!

Have you sailed on Balmoral before? We'd love to hear your stories in the comments below...

Our Story

Whoever said that “bigger is better”? Not us. While the cruise industry has gone for bigger ships brimming with more and more people, we’ve always believed that small is better. Because smaller ships bring big benefits. They mean we can treat passengers as guests, like the family-run business we are. They can dock at smaller ports, much closer to the parts of our planet we’re most passionate about showing. They mean we can avoid overcrowding, both aboard and ashore, so our guests can disembark easily and enjoy the freedom to see, explore and experience. They mean we can offer warmer, more personal levels of service. It would be easy to scale up, cram in and cut corners, but we never will. Because to us, the size we are is the size we should be.
