Benmore Estate

Benmore Estate lies in the heart of the Isle of Mull and is situated amongst some of the most spectacular Highland scenery.

The Estate extends to about 16,000 acres in total and stretches from the southern shoreline of Loch Na Keal over the summit of Benmore (3,169ft) to Glen More, about 6 miles distant. In mid 2014, the neighbouring Glenforsa Estate was purchased and is run alongside Benmore. The principal house on the estate, Knock House is a very comfortable family home beautifully situated at the head of Loch na Ke

al. Recently refurbished to a very high standard the house consists of 12 guest bedrooms and 8 guest bath/shower rooms and will sleep up to 22 guests extremely comfortably with additional accommodation for a cook/nanny if required. In addition to Knock House the estate has a number of self catering holiday cottages available to let all perfectly situated in the centre of the island.

If you think that because Mull is an island its landscape does not have the same wow factor as the highlands, you’d be wrong. There is no better way to see this landscape than through the guide of an experienced ghillie hill walking or stalking. You’ll soon realise that Mull’s USP is that it not only has stunning coastal scenery but also beautiful highland landscapes.

Did you know that Knock House was one owned by Queen Victoria’s 4th daughter, Princess Louise. When she married the 9th Duke of Argyll, he gifted his royal bride with the large Victorian extensions to the house, which lend it so much character to this day.

It may be raining on Mull but that means one thing: salmon fishing! And it certainly has been a salmon filled week! Guests at Knock House have enjoyed the best conditions to fish the rivers and Loch Ba and capitalise on the fresh run of Salmon.

A fresh run of salmon have arrived on the full moon. This lovely silver 8lb hen fish caught on the River Ba on Saturday evening has got us excited for the fishing season!

Benmore Lady tentatively entering Fingal's Cave.

Located on the uninhabited island of Staffa in Scotland, Fingal's Cave is one of the most famous caves in the entire world. The beauty of the cave's tall and majestic volcanic basalt columns has captivated visitors for over 250 years.

The acoustics of the cave are quite unique; the echoes are referred to as Fingal's Cave music. These sounds gave inspiration to the classical composer, Felix Mendelssohn, to write one of this most well-known pieces, 'The Hebrides' overture.

Loch Bà - November 2021

The golden autumn sun over Loch Bà. At 5km long, Loch Bà is the second largest inland loch here on the Isle of Mull. The loch is drained by the River Bà, flowing into Loch Na Keal and is home to Atlantic salmon as well as sea trout. Accessible on foot from the estate, the stone track meanders along the southern shoreline, taking in incredible mountain views, valleys and rivers along the way.

Our second luxurious Pod arrived on Thursday afternoon and here’s a video of it being placed. The third Pod arrives in a fortnight and the site is really beginning to take shape 🤩 www.islandpods.co.uk
