We're thrilled that the historic Cabrach Distillery, nestled in Inverharroch Farm, has opened, marking the revival of a whisky-making tradition dating back to the 1800s. This is no ordinary distillery—it's a remarkable restoration of 19th-century stone steadings, now housing not only the distillery but also a café and a heritage centre.

The Cabrach region has long been steeped in whisky lore, once a hub for illicit distilling during the 18th and 19th centuries. Its remote landscapes provided cover for moonshiners crafting their spirits away from prying eyes. Today, the Cabrach Trust is breathing new life into this heritage, with the distillery at the heart of a broader community regeneration effort.

The first release, The Feering Early Harvest Edition, offers whisky enthusiasts a unique blend crafted by Master of Malt Alan Wi******er, whose expertise spans decades. For those eager to stay updated and enjoy exclusive access to future releases, consider joining the Cabrach Collective—a community celebrating the area's rich history and promising future.

Who would have thought Scotland was home to reindeer? But here in Speyside, we’re lucky enough to be within reach of The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd —the UK's only free-ranging herd of reindeer. December is the perfect time to book a hilltop visit to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. They’ll also make festive appearances at the Reindeer Centre, but due to ongoing refurbishments, their full program may not run every weekend. We’re so delighted Elaine and her family enjoyed their stay with us. They had full access to the house and chose our self-catering option, which allowed them to make the most of our facilities at their own pace. Steeped in history, yet fresh in spirit—Ballindalloch Distillery brings whisky-making tradition back to its roots on the Ballindalloch Estate, where distilling dates back to the 1820s. Officially revived in 2015, this hands-on distillery grows its own barley, nourishes estate cattle with distilling byproducts, and crafts a rich single malt in small batches. Its first widely available release has been aged in both bourbon and sherry casks from 2015 to 2024, capturing the Spey Valley’s legacy in every bottle. For a special winter adventure, hop on the Dufftown to Keith Railway’s Santa Train this December. Usually only running between April to October, this historic railway that is run by volunteers opens its doors in winter for magical family journeys complete with gifts for the little ones and a festive spirit all around. And if you’d like a unique way to welcome in the year 2025, don’t miss the Hogmanay Train, with traditional Scottish entertainment, music, and seasonal fare—a truly unique way to welcome the New Year.
