Tucked away in a picturesque valley near Rothes, Speyburn Distillery has long been one of Speyside’s best-kept secrets. Founded in 1897, this historic distillery was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, and to this day, it continues to craft exceptional single malts using traditional methods.

After years of being closed to the public, Speyburn opened its doors to visitors in 2023, offering whisky lovers the chance to step inside and experience its time-honoured craft. Using pure water from the Granty Burn and age-old techniques, Speyburn produces beautifully balanced whiskies with fresh, citrusy notes and a signature Speyside character.

A visit to Speyburn offers a rare glimpse into a working distillery that has quietly produced award-winning whisky for over a century. Whether you're a long-time fan or discovering Speyburn for the first time, their new visitor experience is not to be missed.

This month, we're featuring the Mortlach 16, a whisky as rich in history as it is in flavour. Mortlach is the oldest distillery in Dufftown, often referred to as "The Beast of Dufftown" for its robust and complex profile.

The 16-year-old Mortlach is matured in sherry casks, giving it deep, luxurious flavours of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and spice. On the nose, expect hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak, leading to a palate filled with rich toffee, dark berries, and a touch of leather, finishing with a warm, lingering sweetness.

Whether you're exploring Mortlach for the first time or revisiting a Speyside classic, this dram captures the true essence of traditional Scotch whisky. When next visiting us, if you have booked our private whisky bar, be sure to try the Mortlach if you haven’t already, and take the opportunity to savour a taste of Dufftown's oldest distillery.
