One bedroom apartment in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote - newly renovated and available for holiday rent. Beautifully presented, comfortable with an amazing location literally 2 mins from the beach. (Sadly not mine 😄)

One of the most frequent comments in our visitor book is that the people of Kelso are so friendly, making visitors feel so welcome! 🤞

This is Bonnie Prince Charlie's horseshoe, firmly secured in the middle of Roxburgh Street in Kelso. The shoe was allegedly cast by the prince's steed as he passed through the town during the 1745 Jacobite Rising. It was then set into the cobbles in commemoration of the event!

The Jacobite army stayed here for two nights in November on their way south and since Kelso is so close to the border, a small detachment was sent to proclaim Charles' father as King James VIII on English soil, before scuttling back here to safer ground.

A few more days of marching around the Scottish Borders followed, before the army finally passed into England. As one, the soldiers all drew their weapons, held them into the air and cheered while they continued marching onwards.

However, Cameron of Lochiel apparently cut his hand as he pulled his sword from its scabbard. For superstitious Highlanders, that was clearly a terrible omen for the campaign to come...

It's a local curiosity, that lots of people walk past every day without any idea why it's there!
