Whats on in The Lake District this August?

🎸Kendal Calling (1st-4th): Join the music at Lowther Deer Park with a lineup of live acts such as Declan Mckenna, Kate Nash and The Streets. A highlight of the summer festival scene!

🏡Cartmel Show (7th): Experience a classic country show with livestock displays, agricultural exhibitions, and a variety of local crafts and food stalls. A perfect day out for all the family!

🏃‍♂️ Race the Tide (9-11 August 2024): Muncaster Castle hosts an exciting 10km obstacle race with mud, rivers, and hills. The weekend includes a celebratory dinner with fun for athletes, families, and dogs!

🦞Taste of the Sea (10th & 11th): Maryport’s seafood extravaganza features an oyster bar, cookery demos, live music, and fairground rides. Stalls open 10am-5pm Saturday, 10am-4pm Sunday.

🌟Solfest (22nd-25th): Celebrate at this vibrant festival in the heart of the Lake District. Enjoy a mix of music, art, and performance across multiple stages, with activities and entertainment for all ages.

🎤Wannasee Festival (23rd-25th): For over 10 years, Wannasee Festivals have delighted crowds with top-notch tribute bands covering the greatest hits from the last 50 years to today.

What's on in The Lake District this July?

🐮Skelton Show (6th July): A quintessential country day featuring horticulture, livestock shows, vintage vehicles, and family fun. With over 150 trade stands, crafts, food, and live entertainment, it’s the perfect outing for everyone!

🍻Hawkshead Summer Beer Festival (19 - 20th July): Free Entry on both days, 3 Bars, Gin Bar Prosecco bar, street food and live music! Held at Staveley Mill Yard.

❤️Ulverston Pride Festival (20th July): From 10am - 5pm, at the Market Cross. There will be Live entertainment, family activities and stalls!

🐄Penrith Show (20th July): Dedicated to promoting agriculture and British Food & Farming, the show combines traditional livestock competitions with a variety of attractions including trade stands, a food hall, and rural crafts.

⛰️Westmorland Dales Festival (27 - 28th July): Explore the heart of the Westmorland Dales, celebrating landscape, heritage, and community. Join free events, workshops, and local flavors in Kirkby Stephen. Whether local or visitor, embrace the spirit of this vibrant festival!

This weekend was stunning weather for a Skelwith walk. Blue skies, stunning scenery and January sunshine. What's not to love! The best way to finish it off is always with a trip to Chesters by the River of course!

A little bit of lunch and Retail Therapy this morning. Deliciously healthy Buddah Bowls from Baba Ganush, gloriously colourful knitwear from Iluvmemost and some beautiful, unusual local/ethical gifts for the children from Ivy Bank Home & Gift. I love Kendal for independent eateries and retailers 😊. The "Wild Swimming Walks" book might make it back to The Warren once my daughter has planned her next adventure!

Bringing some festive cheer to Kendal this Saturday

We have the best town, a town full of creative folks, crafting, carving, brewing, and baking, and yes, they’re all about to gather together for this festive season.

Saturday 9 December 2023 – Christmas Market
Sausages will be sold, mince pies baked and Christmas cakes wrapped with sparkly ribbon, and of course all made in Cumbria with the finest of ingredients.

Elf yourself out of bed this Saturday, pop on your walking boots and most importantly, don’t forget your pooches – all are welcome.

The brass band will be hooting and tooting as they blow out tunes from Away in a Manger. Jingle your way to Kendal Farmers Market, gathering on Finkle Street under the twinkly lights to enjoy delicious delights and more. Ho ho ho!

‘Tis the season to be jolly so why not come down to the marketplace and enjoy a little festive cheer by adding the following dates to your diaries …

Misty start to the morning for Fell Foot parkrun, followed by a quick dip (Jemima was braver than David this time!) and a beautiful drive back through the Lyth Valley and Underbarrow. Time for a late brunch before setting to and decorating the house for Christmas!

Taste testing for The Warren's new Welcome Packs 😋. Over the coming weeks, we'll be selecting some of our favourite Lakeland products to share with our wonderful customers when they arrive at our holiday home from December onwards. So far, we've nibbled on Kendal Mint Cake, been tempted by toffees and I'm now looking forward to a cuppa. I wonder what will "make the cut"!

One of the reasons we love The Warren is that it is ideally situated for accessing so many stunning locations. Instead of heading for the Lake district itself, why not, for a change, head east along the A684 for about 30 miles to Aysgarth, where you will find these incredible waterfalls with plenty of easy walking and picnic spots. This area of the North Yorkshire Moors is Wensleydale, and on the way you will pass the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes where you can try some of Wallace and Grommits favourite cheese, Wensleydale. There are also a number of great pubs around as well as good cafes at Aysgarth too.

Legend has it that if you can climb The Fairy Steps without touching the sides, you will see a fairy. To be honest, getting middle aged bottoms, two teenagers, and a tired dog with short legs up the steps is a challenge enough in itself 😂
