Our one-week walk along the Algarve coastline is perfect for a spring or autumn holiday, when temperatures are warm but not blisteringly hot. This scenic hike follows a section of the Rota Vicentina Trail, combining clifftop paths with sweeping ocean views, deserted bays, and inland cork forest. You’ll stay at charming rural homes along the way and your luggage will be transferred for you. This is the real Algarve, away from the crowds and resorts.

Steve visited the island of Bordoy and hiked to the top of Klakkur, from Klaksvik. He took this beautiful panorama of some of the surrounding islands from the summit.

Steve enjoying festivities in the Faroe Islands 🎄🎄🎄
Perhaps one of the nicest parts of our job is meeting the wonderful people that we work with around the world.
This week Steve has been welcomed in by Niclas, a singer/songwriter and children’s author (not to mention many other talents), who rents out a couple of guesthouses and provides experiences.
Steve was invited to a Christmas work party where Niclas’s choir were performing. We’re all rather envious!

Max and Ian are on Sao Tome, at Mucumbli Eco- Lodge. This characterful cliff-top lodge is owned by an Italian couple who have lived on the island for many years. The lodge is made up of several expertly crafted wooden chalets and you can walk down the hill to a beach with black volcanic sands.
Between November and March, turtles come to nest on the rocky beach.👇

Ian and Max in Gabon | Loango National Park 🦍.
Gorillas! The Gorilla trekking has been particularly adventurous and rewarding (we gather from a brief call with Max). You journey stealthily through the water by boat, then get dropped off at a prime location, where gorillas are known to group. Though only a small amount of trekking involved, you have to be nimble on your feet and prepared for wading through water on occasion.
The Gorillas seemed unperturbed by Max’s presence, and that of the guides, which made for a very authentic experience. This is a true wilderness, where you can witness gorillas in their natural state, with very few other visitors.
It’s a proper ‘out there’ adventure (those over 65 must have a permission letter from their doctor).

Ian and Max are in Gabon | Loango National Park 🐘 After a short flight from Libreville to Port-Gentil, Ian and Max head to Loango National Park for some ‘high adventure’.
Like all good wilderness experiences, this started with a somewhat intrepid journey by road and boat. It was a three-hour drive to N’dola Lodge, including the final hour on a muddy and bumpy 4X4 track. A short boat journey then took them the final few km! Max tells us:
“For the able and willing, the journey reaps rewards: you’re based on the junction of forest, ocean and lagoon so there’s plenty of chances to see wildlife. This is ‘Green Season’ (wet) and this means there’s more chance of catching a glimpse of wildlife on the open, currently-green, savannas. Today (Monday) we saw elephants”
Top tip for this journey: bring food and water in the car, and a waterproof bag to put your belongs in (the boat has no cover).
