www.portugalchoice.co.uk Our holidays are organised with great care, using our extensive knowledge of our destinations and our experience of travelling around them. We offer more choice and greater flexibility than any other tour operator, combining the best activities with genuinely hand-picked accommodation.

Visiting our destinations and getting to know our suppliers has always been a crucial part of what we do – we feel it’s important to visit all the hotels and houses we recommend, and to have first-hand experience of the activities and excursions we offer. What makes travelling with Archipelago Choice different? Our overriding principle is care and we’ll always provide the high level of service we’d expect to receive ourselves if we were booking a holiday. Whether you’re planning a trip, you’re about to depart or you’re enjoying your holiday in the Azores – if you need us, we’re here to support you. We have a twenty-four hour helpline and a member of our UK team is on-hand to help resolve any problems that might crop up. Peace of mind

Perhaps now more than ever, it’s important to have the correct travel insurance in place when confirming your holiday with us. Insurers are offering COVID-cover – as always, it pays to shop around and be sure to check the small-print carefully to confirm you’re fully covered for all eventualities. For your peace-of-mind, we also offer our own back-up: if COVID-19 prevents you from travelling and your insurer won’t help, we will. We’ll reschedule your trip like-for-like to any point in the following twelve months free of charge. All our holidays are also financially protected by our ATOL license.

Max’s Adventures: The Bone Chapel 💀
Our day in and around Évora started with a taxi ride out of the town to walk back with guide Paulo, following the course of the aqueduct. The first one was Roman, so another thing the Romans did for us apart from the Templo in town.

A mid-route taxi skipped the main road part and we followed the remains of the course into Évora centre.

In the afternoon we just had to visit the bone chapel (of course), and see the view from the cathedral.

Max’s Adventures in Portugal Continued: EVORA
So to Évora by train, in time to see the historic centre by light and by dark.

It was all about the Roman temple this evening. Dinner at Momentos was very de-licious.

Three weeks, 5 islands and miles of trails.

Many thanks to Eric for his fantastic photos, which we all enjoyed looking through. It was hard to pick out 9 favourites, but here they are (my number one favourite picture is in my next post).

Day 6 for Max, the end to his walk along the wild Algarve Coast. A rest day in Sagres before he heads inland to rural Evora.

“I walked around the coast of the town and then we got a taxi to Zavial beach for a 10km walk back via several golden south coast beaches and more cliff scenery. Today’s nature: more storks. Évora tomorrow :)”

Kopakonan (Seal Woman) - A commemorative statue to one of the best known folklore stories in the Faroe Islands.

The legend of the selkie, half woman half seal, has been told throughout the generations in the Faroes. Each story has a similar theme of love and heartbreak, usually concluding with the selkie wife going back to sea, leaving behind her husband and children.

This particular story has a rather tragic end. See image text for more of the story!👇

Day 5 of Max’s Rota Vicentina Walk 👇
“Vila do Bispo to Sagres today, via Cabo de Sao Vicente, the corner at the south west of Portugal.

Easy going along gravel roads to the Cabo where the limestone took over, with limestone pavement along sheer edges around the cape and to Sagres.

Nearer to Sagres the limestone cliffs have been sculpted into fascinating structures. Blue skies and no clouds all day. Oh. Snake!”

“Was going to run to Hvalba and back but decided to cut it short due to the weather. The trails weren’t overly visible in poor weather, so made the sensible choice to return back once the clouds rolled in.”

Day two of Portuguese coastal walking, from Arrifana to Carrapateira. Some words from Max 👇

Easy going on fire roads through dry and low rolling hill and finishing along the huge, beautiful and mainly empty beach of Praia da Bordeira. This south west Algarve coast seems less busy than the nearby south coast. Now settling in to the Hortas do Rio :)

Arrival into Ponta Delgada - São Miguel - Azores
So excited to be here. The SATA flight, direct from Gatwick, was very relaxed and the flight attendant’s were so great with the girls. We landed in sunshine, drove a short distance to Caloura, a beautiful little port town. The salt-water pool at Quinta Altamira is just amazing for the kids, hours of fun! The bungalows are surrounded by greenery: hibiscus, alliums, succulents big and small, fig trees, banana trees…it’s just beautiful! I’d forgotten how nice a balmy warm evening can be too! We had some delicious seafood, caught that day, at a local restaurant. What a great arrival!
