There has been an alarming rise in Mountain Rescue callouts over the past year, putting strain on our volunteer teams. Accidents happen to anyone, but we can reduce the risk of having to make a call for help by learning to use a paper map and compass as a back up. I attended a fantastic skills course last December, we covered navigation (because apps don't always have signal and batteries fail!), what to do in
case of unexpected situations, recognising signs of hypothermia. Read our blog, look up www.adventuresmart.uk and always pack a survival bivvy bag, it could save a life. .
