Making the decision this year to only mow certain areas of the lawn and to leave beneath the hedges in their natural state for the birds and bees. There is an abundance of foxgloves standing proud. A day in the life of a holiday let host. Preparing Lily Wen Bungalow a 6 bedroom wheelchair friendly home for returning guests. The games room which is cowboy themed has had a few little extras and in the Sip and Swizzle lounge you will find the selfie frame just waiting to capture all those selfies. The wendy house a new addition and just perfect for the little people and todays hamper is just bursting with lots of local goodies. A packed day preparing Lily Wen for returning guests. Making up a camp bed just in case the little one wants to be with mum and dad instead of his own room. Doing my bit for the environment by going green using @nakedsprout toilet rolls and kitchen towels. Small changes make a big impact when everyone does it. No mowing the lawns today but Thursday will surely see me back out there getting a last cut in before they arrive. The new arrival of the Wendy house is going to be fab for the kids, young and old alike. Only the croquet to put out on the lawn and then let the Whitsun holidays begin. Proud to have achieved the coveted 4 * accreditation from Visit Wales. Just waiting on the official certification but what an achievement and to think I was only pipped from 5 * due to the lounge not being able to fit 12 people in one room. Corporate day today........Client request was for pen notebook holders for their client workshop and to go that bit extra I did holders out of old cassette tapes. These I've done before for a DJ inspired event and they proved very popular. Lily Wen is a great venue for intimate workshops/mini corporate days. Instead of boardroom table, there is a farmhouse table that seats 12, tea and coffee readily available including nespresso and flavoured teas and Iced water. Private parking for 6 cars and lunch can be provided if desired. St Petrox, the girls bunk beds bedroom. Truly the sweetest and cutest bedroom. Think butterflyies and a seashell boardwalk. The floor has been created using seashell napkins and it truly lovely. The centre light was made using slides found in a vintage shop of a holiday in France and someones wedding in the 60's. I was asked if I was to buy a property to refurbish for the holiday let market what advice would I give myself. Probably the biggest and most important is budget. I had a set budget and a contingency sum. The reality though is you can double what you think you will spend as very often when refurbing you uncover problems not accounted for. Also check and recheck rules and regulations within your chosen rental sector. These can change often and you need to be aware and expect that you will have to abide by them. Hidden costs in being compliant. Insurance is higher in this sector and you require yearly checks to comply with health and safety as well a host of other things. Quality over quantity. This actually I implemented from day dot. But it's good to be reminded that quality furniture lasts longer. Bedding too, guests want and expect the best and you should be putting your guests needs at the forefront of your business as without them there is no business. The hustler in me always looks for the opportunity to improve and better. With Lily Wen that was exactly what I saw when I first viewed it on a cold and blustery morning. Here was a chance to make what was already a great house an even greater house. First was to change the name from The Bealings which means angry in Scottish. I certainly didn't want an angry house name. So Lily Wen was actually twofold. 1, it is the name of our Wolf dog and 2. Lily Wen also means White Lily in Welsh. My unique style to decor is also my U.S.P. when it comes to guests wanting to stay. My love of saving things from the landfill. Up-cycling and repurposing items for the better means that not only do you stay in a luxury home but you will also see lots of wonderful quirky things too.
