Our beautiful chalk stream here at West Lexham is incredibly special for a number of reasons and actually there are thought to be just 140 chalk streams in the world! 👀❤️ This beautiful stretch of water runs as part of the River Nar & eventually joins the estuary at Kings Lynn.
This allows beautiful sea trout, eels and other wonderful creatures to navigate the waters to a safe space to breed & has been restored here at West Lexham by the EU and even Coca-Cola lead funding to help preserve this wonderfully unique (and thoroughly important) eco-system 🌿
Playing host to a variety of rare British species, such as freshwater mussels, otters, kingfishers & number of important vertebrates, who all benefit from the natural chalk springs this feed the stream all year round. So, if you’re planning a visit to West Lexham soon, be certain to spend some time down by the stream and take in a variety of spectacular species 🌳
March is bringing us those early signs of spring 🌼 Many of our wonderfully nectar-rich plants are reaching their early bloom and begin to adorn the landscape with an array of wonderful colours. The Wild flowers are starting to sprout and give off their lovely scents, all of this encourages some of our favourite inhabitants here... the beautiful Bees 🐝 These will stay with us right through until early Autumn now, polenating the site and spreading colour and joy everywhere they roam 💛🖤
