Lovingly refurbished house full of character features and providing extensive space for guests, both indoors and out. We provide free Wi-Fi and TVs in every bedroom as well as indoor a

nd outdoor games and a range of books. South facing private courtyard with the sound of our stream provides an ideal spot for summer barbecues and soaking up the sun. The stunning huge enclosed garden is perfect for children and dogs to play and explore. The extensive accommodation has a double aspect lounge with a wood burner for cosy winter nights in, a separate adjoining dining room for enjoying great food and company and a spacious kitchen breakfast room for casual dining and eating. All four bedrooms are also generous in size and all enjoy views across the village to the church with window seats to sink in the views. We provide two highchairs, travel cots, and a stair gate for younger guests.

Do your dogs enjoy lounging on the sofa and snoring the night away in the middle of your bed? Tired after a great day splashing around in their own private stretch of steam, exploring a quarter of an acre garden, not forgetting a walk on our local beach and a visit to one of our 2 village pubs then we might just be the pawfect destination for both you and your dogs!

We have no restrictions on the number of dogs or their 'breed' description, why would we?

Our accommodation can accommodate up to eight guests in four bedrooms, as well as two infants in travel cots which we provide.

We often welcome couples and their dogs.

Covering a quarter of an acre of outside space our garden is encircled by sturdy stone walls, up to 4ft tall, with a hedge in front a 5-bar gate covered in mesh and 4ft high rabbit fencing on one side, with a hedge for added protection.

In our large enclosed courtyard the house stands tall on one side, while the second side boasts a towering wall over 6ft high. The third side features a solid wall with an inset gate that is at least 5ft tall. The fourth side of the courtyard comprises a stream with a low wall and a garden gate that leads to the expansive enclosed garden.

Slapton is a charming village with scenic lanes, located between Dartmouth and Salcombe, you will find two cozy village pubs where you can experience a warm local welcome. Just beyond the village, there is a three-mile-long beach that is open to dogs all year round, with plenty more beaches to explore in the surrounding area.

For all dogs today is and ours certainly appreciate chasing them ;-)

A few years ago Archie and Izzy 🐾🐾🌈🌈 managed to chase a squirrel in our front garden, for some reason it ran past a tree and around not under the car. Harry 🐾🌈was minding his own business was meandering up the other side of the car and it ran straight into his mouth... I am still not sure who screamed louder him or the squirrel as he spat it out and this time it had the sense to run under the car and up the tree.🤣

Luckily for him the other 2 missed the 'capture' and I am sure he told a very different story to them than the facts ;-)

Did you read the Beano and the Dandy comics when you were a child? My brother and I did and when I found this picture of in TWO ROOMS in Kingsbridge I just had to have it for our snug. Which is where we keep all our board games and books for guests to borrow.
So for the cloakroom, I had to have a feature wall papered with pages from Beano's Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Albums.

Plus we have a private stretch of stream that enters and exits under a wall. I took this yesterday starting in Torcross where you will find The Billy Can and other lovely local places to eat and on up into our village. Ending at the top of Brook Street where Rill House is. I need to try again as at the end I managed to get the roof of the car in 🙇‍♀️🤣

It’s all about our dogs!

The three dogs above are the reason we brought Rill House. Archie (GWP), Izzy in the middle and Harry always loved our holidays in South Devon. We also own Grants Cottage in Dartmouth. We used to take them walking on Slapton Sands, our local 3m long beach, and used to drive out for dinner some nights for dinner at one of the two village pubs in Slapton. Parking in Slapton is limited so we often used to park on the road by Rill House’s garden and fell in love with it then with it’s huge garden, parking, stream and stunning looking outside. We used to say we would love it as our forever house, we knew our dogs would love the garden and how close it was to the beach.

Then one day a phone call from my husband, it was on the market! The first time we walked in through the door we knew it had to be ours. It took us 2 years to finally buy it and I cannot tell you how excited we were. The plan has always been to share our much loved home with guests and their dogs until we retire (sadly for us in many years time).

We have always welcomed any number of dogs of any breed to stay in any room in the house as we know how hard it was to find anywhere that welcomed more than ‘one small well behaved dog’ in the downstairs only.

Rill House is a holiday home in every sense of the word, we have tried to make it home from home for our guests decorating it with unique art work and photographs all framed just for the house. We have stocked the kitchen with everything you would need to cook what ever takes your fancy. Egyptian cotton bedsheets, luxurious bath towels, TVs in every bedroom and the thickest carpet. Archie and Harry are sadly no longer with us but they adored their holidays at Rill House, they would spend hours playing in the garden and loved nothing more than snoozing in front of a fire in one of the village pubs. Izzy who is 9 now has a new friend Sophie whose favourite game is chasing round the garden with a fallen palm frond in her mouth (she is only 12 months now). So that is ‘our story’ of how we fell in love with a beautiful old lady.
