In partnership with the National Trust, Brant Fell owners and Commoners, we've replaced the old footbridge over the River Rawthey to open up access to Cautley Spout waterfall (England’s highest cascade waterfall). The Public Bridleway had previously not been accessible to horses or those with limited mobility due to the steep banking and narrow footbridge.

Funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Farming in Protected Landscape programme has allowed the installation of a new wider bridge which gives access to pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians and wheelchair users. It will enable local farmers and commoners to access by quadbike, as well as stock movement off the fell, without the need for using the deep ford below Low Haygarth. Further works are planned for the area in 2025. More 👇

We’ve moved a step closer to getting up to 450 new trains for the North. 🚆

Major train manufacturers have been invited to begin negotiations to supply new trains to operate across the North of England.

The new trains will be introduced on a phased basis, replacing the oldest units in Northern’s existing fleet, most of which have been in service since the 1980s and 90s.

The trains will feature a mix of electric, multi-modal (diesel/electric), and battery-powered models, ensuring greater efficiency and sustainability.

This will be the largest ever investment in our fleet to serve the North.
