🐴 The Dalewin Fell Ponies never fail to bring us joy when we see them out on the fells. Just listen to their whinnying and look at the spring in their steps.
Cumbrian Fell Ponies are an ancient breed; they roamed this land even before the Romans arrived and were use as pack and plough animals by the Vikings.
Once they were used as working ponies for taking goods to market, as pit ponies in collieries and as carriers of goods to remote areas. Now they’re classed as a rare breed although they’re still used sometimes for conservation grazing and to carry footpath repair equipment to remote parts of the Lake District.
They’ve shaped our landscape and played a role in our history for thousands of years; we think that’s pretty amazing!

THE HAYSTORE Christmas ready ✨
Sunset on the summit of Green Bell yesterday, a a bit over an hour to the Summit from our front door 🌅 🤩. What an amazing evening!
We were down at the The Engine Shed at Pennine View Park last night for fireworks and live music by Squeeze Box. Rachel Ian and the team at Pennine View Park have created this superb family friendly venue which offers a great atmosphere every time! We certainly had a good night 🍺 🕺
Red Squirrel at The Green Cumbria
One of our red squirrels 🐿 last night popping out for a bite. 🥜. These guys are so fun to watch and they let you get up close. We keep our feeders topped up with delicious hazel nuts, pine nuts and seeds meaning your pretty much guaranteed to see them during a stay with us.

It’s always special when the fell ponies come to say hello.🐴 These beautiful creatures are semi-wild and spend weeks up on the fell, often ignoring the hay lower down and have little contact with their owners. They are really friendly though and when they do appear they seem to enjoy hanging around at The Green.
