With the Pennines to the east and the Lake District Fells to the west, there is so much to explore in the Eden Valley.

With a mixture of lush green countryside, sandstone villages and Wainwright's favourite, the Howgill Fells on our doorstep, the possibilities for great days out are endless!

And with one of the finest salmon and trout rivers in the North of England, The River Eden, there's also the chance of freshly caught fish for supper!

The vaulted ceilings and tall slate fireplace are the stars of the show in this rustic yet luxurious space. Laid out on two floors plus cosy mezzanine, there is plenty of space to relax and unwind.
Large French doors lead out to an elevated terrace, perfect for taking in the views and sipping wine on a balmy summer evening.

🌿 SUSTAINABILITY 🌿

Here at The Green, sustainability is much more to us than swapping a few cleaning products. We are on a journey to explore many more sustainable ways to operate our business which include everything from renewable energy solutions, ethical purchasing, staff training, enhancing customer wellbeing, methods of transport that guests use to get here and promoting biodiversity.

We already have several sustainable systems in place such as our ground source heat pumps for heating & hot water, solar panels and a private bore hole along with smaller items such as compostable kitchen items and local produce in our welcome packs. However, these are just the beginning and we are very excited about a more sustainable future. Small changes can lead to big results and we have lots of ideas!

📍Carthouse - June Availability 📍

We have rare summer availability in Carthouse this June; why not get booked up before it disappears. Here are the details of the property...

The Carthouse sleeps up to 6 guests and is perfect for larger families or friends catching up. The ground floor has a cosy living room with original stone fireplace, open plan kitchen/diner (a great place for entertaining!) and wet room.

Large French doors lead out from the kitchen to the rear grounds and the private enclosed courtyard garden, which is a perfect spot to relax and listen to Artlegarth beck trickling by.

Upstairs on the first floor there are two bedrooms, one with exposed beams, vaulted ceiling and original stone wall and master bathroom.

Another flight of stairs leads to the third bedroom in the apex of the barn, which has lovely views of Wild Boar Fell.

The Carthouse contains additional facilities for the needs of guests with limited mobility, including assisted wheelchair users.

📍 Although we're officially in Cumbria, we are ALSO in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. That means you have wonderful countryside in all directions. Mountains and lakes, hills and dales, flora and fauna.

🐴 The Dalewin Fell Ponies never fail to bring us joy when we see them out on the fells. Just listen to their whinnying and look at the spring in their steps. Cumbrian Fell Ponies are an ancient breed; they roamed this land even before the Romans arrived and were use as pack and plough animals by the Vikings. Once they were used as working ponies for taking goods to market, as pit ponies in collieries and as carriers of goods to remote areas. Now they’re classed as a rare breed although they’re still used sometimes for conservation grazing and to carry footpath repair equipment to remote parts of the Lake District. They’ve shaped our landscape and played a role in our history for thousands of years; we think that’s pretty amazing! With stunning open plan living and dining, cosy mezzanine, log burner and outside terrace area, it’s no wonder we are rated 5* Gold by Visit England. ⭐️ All our cottages are dog friendly so you can bring your four legged friends too. You CAN have a luxury holiday cottage without having to leave your doggos behind! 🐾🐾🐾 ⭐️ There’s an interconnecting door to The Byre, so you can turn it into a cottage for eight if you’re coming as a larger group. THE HAYSTORE Christmas ready ✨

Sunset on the summit of Green Bell yesterday, a a bit over an hour to the Summit from our front door 🌅 🤩. What an amazing evening!

We were down at the The Engine Shed at Pennine View Park last night for fireworks and live music by Squeeze Box. Rachel Ian and the team at Pennine View Park have created this superb family friendly venue which offers a great atmosphere every time! We certainly had a good night 🍺 🕺

Red Squirrel at The Green Cumbria

One of our red squirrels 🐿 last night popping out for a bite. 🥜. These guys are so fun to watch and they let you get up close. We keep our feeders topped up with delicious hazel nuts, pine nuts and seeds meaning your pretty much guaranteed to see them during a stay with us. It’s always special when the fell ponies come to say hello.🐴 These beautiful creatures are semi-wild and spend weeks up on the fell, often ignoring the hay lower down and have little contact with their owners. They are really friendly though and when they do appear they seem to enjoy hanging around at The Green.
