Nice wee Grilse, Mochrum park river Bladnoch. I got it this morning from tail of market pool then another from 40 footer about the same size. The river has had a good clean out ( which it needed) and a few fish running. We had one last night from the cree as well.
I had 2 Grilse this morning down at Kirwaugh - River Bladnoch, both safely returned. Fish coming in decent numbers into both rivers. As ever though we could do with a bit more water on the Bladnoch to really get them flushing through the river system. Good to see a decent run of Grilse though ...
The Grilse are coming now .. i had 2 today from the Cree. This one from the Bridge this morning and i had another tonight down at boat pool. Both mint off the tide and sea liced. I also hooked another - Both fish safely returned ..
A coloured Spring Salmon I caught this afternoon on Mochrum Park - River Bladnoch π£π£
In Galloway seclusion is the norm, not the exception. This is down near the Isle of Whithorn yesterday ......... just a few slots available in the houses this year now.. βοΈ
My second Springer of the Morning - from Bridge pool Cree - Machermore. The tidal sections tend to fish best when the river drops back (as it has now) ...... they tend to run straight through to the top of the river when its high ..... hence the Minnoch (Cree Tributary ) caught and lost quite a few this month .......... if you look carefully you will see it was covered in long tail sea lIce..
I had 2 spring Salmon this morning .. its been a slow start to the season although to be fair most springers on Galloway rivers run from Mid April to end of May now. This first fish i had this morning at 9,30 before it started to rain was down at Kirwaugh on the River Bladnoch ... A lovely little springer about 7lb. On the Bladnoch my Guests have lost a couple of Springers this month up at Mochrum Park as well .. Lets hope for more now ... more photos of the fish i had on Cree are coming >>
Opening day of the Cree today β¦ had a quick cast (this is down the bottom end of my beat at Machermore - Colonels Pool) , not a lot doing Although I did catch a very unusual Trout β¦. Maybe an escaped Tiger Trout ? Not much in the way of Salmon today, but itβs only a matter of time before the first Springer β¦π£π£π£
Had a cast for just one hour on Mochrum park - river Bladnoch this afternoon β¦. I had 4 Salmon kelts β¦.. not what we are after, but good to see a few around. Hoping for a Springer soon π£π£

I did a bit of Riverbank work today in anticipation of the opening of the season on the Bladnoch Feb 11th and on Cree 1st March. This is Market pool looking up to Smithy cottage. Remember two free rods up to the end of March if booked with a cottage.
After the storm β¦.. a lovely sky this evening at Mochrum Park..
A bleak day in the Galloway hills today. Itβs still nice to have a walk and then back to an open fire and a wee dram π₯
James staying in smithy playing his fish on the Cree today. We have had 4 from Bladnoch and 2 Cree so far this week that I know of. This fish on the fly about 14lb gave him a good scrap β¦
The Galloway hills looking resplendent today ..
The fishing has been slow recently - we have some water now and the odd fish about. We have had 3 this week from Mochrum Park - Bladnoch and lost 2 more. I had this one this morning (from corner pool) and Ian Mason in the Coach house has had one about 5lb from Tommy pool and one about 8lb from Nut bank .. lets hope for a few more soon ..
A lovely Salmon i had tonight from Colonels pool - Cree. 16-17 lb. what a fight it gave, but i eventually got it in. I also had a small grilse about 5lb from Mochrum park this morning too..
