We have just had a lovely guest review follwing their stay at the Farmhouse at Destination Balcary:
'A little bolt hole of comfort within the beauty' - Review submitted on Fri, 04 Oct 2024
"The farmhouse was such a gem to find. Set amongst acres of farm we were far enough away from neighbours to really enjoy the expense of view and feel at one with the surroundings. The Farmhouse was high quality in attention to detail, facilities to use on site. There was products in case of emergencies, very well organised for family use. The set up was great if one of you wanted to meander into the sitting room, another could hide in the snug in comfort and another soaking in the view in the conservatory.
The utensils and tools in the kitchen were led out in a superb way for ease of finding and use. Electrical products easy to use and information packet was so stocked of info nothing was left out. Beds were so comfy you felt cocooned as the wind whistled at night. This farmhouse bolts you in, pulls you into its cocoon and you feel safe and warm, but lifted up to enjoy its expansive view of the waters around the coast. The private back paddock was superb for letting your dog out safely within a confined place. Walkways were signposted well. In fact, there was nothing that we would change at Airds of Balcary. In fact we would love to come again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. It made our holiday the joy it was"
Our holiday cottages at Ross Bay are so lucky to be located in a beautiful part of South Scotland. We are located by the sea with great views, surrounded by wonderful, natural and bio-diverse countryside. There is no better way to slow down, relax and take the opportunity to escape daily routines and stresses, and recharge your batteries.
It is a delight to see such a variety of wildlife, farm animals, plant life all living in harmony together. The land and local area all benefits from biodiversity and so do we. Our guests love being able to watch the wildlife living happily in their natural surroundings. This can be enjoyed both from the doorstop of the holiday cottages or by heading out for a walk out onto Ross peninsula.

Oor perfectly grilled fillet of Scottish halibut, paired with a vibrant mixed bean, corn, and pesto salad is a delight. Enjoy the crunch of nacho chips, a squeeze of fresh lemon, and a refreshing dressed salad on the side. A feast for the senses! 🍋🥗🐟

Ross Bay Retreat is a self catering holiday cottage business that was set up alongside the working farm at Ross Bay back in 2014. It was initially established with our 2 bedroom self catering ‘Creel Cottage’ in 2014, then followed by the 3 bedroom ‘Dairy House’ in 2015. ‘Cheeseloft’, a 3 bedroom cottage was fully converted in 2016 and finally ‘Byre By The Sea’ was completed in 2019, offering two bedrooms.
All our cottages have been refurbished to a very high standard and offer lovely views across the bay, they are all pet friendly and provide wood burning stoves for guests within a very comfortable home from home setting.
Our 500 acre working farm has prize breeding cattle herd and a breeding sheep flock. We grow cereals in Yorkshire to bring up here for winter feed and straw for bedding. There is a Biomass boiler system servicing all cottages which was installed in 2014. We have been increasing biodiversity here at Ross Bay with wildflower seeds / areas, and cleaning out / reinstating the old dam during the summer of 2019.
We are delighted to announce that we have been recognised as a Scottish Thistle Award Regional Finalist for 2019/2020, a massive thank you to all our lovely guests we have had staying with us over the last five years for their reviews and support.
