Our holiday cottages at Ross Bay are so lucky to be located in a beautiful part of South Scotland. We are located by the sea with great views, surrounded by wonderful, natural and bio-diverse countryside. There is no better way to slow down, relax and take the opportunity to escape daily routines and stresses, and recharge your batteries.

It is a delight to see such a variety of wildlife, farm animals, plant life all living in harmony together. The land and local area all benefits from biodiversity and so do we. Our guests love being able to watch the wildlife living happily in their natural surroundings. This can be enjoyed both from the doorstop of the holiday cottages or by heading out for a walk out onto Ross peninsula.

Oor perfectly grilled fillet of Scottish halibut, paired with a vibrant mixed bean, corn, and pesto salad is a delight. Enjoy the crunch of nacho chips, a squeeze of fresh lemon, and a refreshing dressed salad on the side. A feast for the senses! 🍋🥗🐟

We were recently visited at Ross Bay by a surveying officer for ‘Species on the Edge Project Officer’ from the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation.

Their reason for visiting to was to assess our farmland and immediate local area for the Common Rock-Rose which is the most important food plant for the Northern Brown Argus butterfly, an endangered species here in the UK. The survey also assessed our nature friendly farming practices are on track.

All on a trip around the farm…… farming and biodiversity at its best working in harmony….. beautiful bluebells, deer upon the hill, cattle settled, stunning views, spring squill ( very rare they say yet we have a lovely carpet of spring squill upon the hill, encouraged by our farming practices and management - if what we did wasn’t working it wouldn’t be growing!)

Ross Bay Retreat Holiday Cottages

Ross Bay Retreat is a self catering holiday cottage business that was set up alongside the working farm at Ross Bay back in 2014. It was initially established with our 2 bedroom self catering ‘Creel Cottage’ in 2014, then followed by the 3 bedroom ‘Dairy House’ in 2015. ‘Cheeseloft’, a 3 bedroom cottage was fully converted in 2016 and finally ‘Byre By The Sea’ was completed in 2019, offering two bedrooms.

All our cottages have been refurbished to a very high standard and offer lovely views across the bay, they are all pet friendly and provide wood burning stoves for guests within a very comfortable home from home setting.

Our 500 acre working farm has prize breeding cattle herd and a breeding sheep flock. We grow cereals in Yorkshire to bring up here for winter feed and straw for bedding. There is a Biomass boiler system servicing all cottages which was installed in 2014. We have been increasing biodiversity here at Ross Bay with wildflower seeds / areas, and cleaning out / reinstating the old dam during the summer of 2019.

We are delighted to announce that we have been recognised as a Scottish Thistle Award Regional Finalist for 2019/2020, a massive thank you to all our lovely guests we have had staying with us over the last five years for their reviews and support.
