Friday Photo Time. We're going to run a few weeks of East Coast attractions and locations - for a change 😏. Here's the Whaligoe Steps - right up in Caithness. There's 365 steps set into a steep cliff that go down to a small natural harbour that was used at the height of the herring fishing era in the 1800's. A fascinating bit of history, lovely views...steps are not for the faint hearted though! Next week, we'll show you a little video of them!

Friday Photo Time. Spring update. Wow, it seems that it's been a super busy time! It's been fab with the lodges busier than before with lots of guests enjoying the fabulous scenery and wildlife. As usual, we've been out exploring new places to share with you. We really love this time as everything comes so alive - starting with daffodils, followed by amazing colour in the fields, on the hills, and in our garden. The animals come back to us from wherever they have been - there's more birds and the red squirrel has been visiting regularly . #

Friday photo time. Some history today…when you're travelling around The Highlands, you will often pass info boards that give some historical insights. Here's just one in Dornoch...we've passed it many times on the way to the beach. But, recently, we stopped. Here is the site of the last witch burning in Scotland. It's really quite an unpleasant tale...see if you can find it when you head to the beach in Dornoch - which is lovely by the way!

Friday Photo Time. We often recommend to our guests to see the seals at Loch Fleet. However, it’s not just seals there! As well as lots of bird life - it's common to see ducks, herons, wading birds and loads of others. The breeding season is best to go as you'll see all sorts of courting going on too. Overlooking the loch is Skelbo Castle which offers fabulous views over the loch and beyond.

We love keeping an eye out for little beasts…you never know what you might see and they’re not always what you think they might be when you do see them. Here we have the bank vole. Perfect really, considering so much of our land is banked 😁

Friday Photo Time. Handa Island. This is a stunning island off the west coast that is an uninhabited (apart from peak time rangers) wildlife reserve. There is a short ferry ride in a small open boat that lands directly onto a beautiful sandy beach. Late spring and summer are the best times to visit although trips normally open at the beginning of April. Watch out for loads of sea birds including puffins if you're lucky. Look out to see for dolphins or whales. And, see the local rabbits run over the lush areas of grass. There'll also be loads of smaller birds dotted all over the island.
