Late Feb: We are likely to be opening around Easter and the calendar will appear on the booking site in advance of opening. To ensure maximum safety we will continue to leave a week between bookings. We follow the recommended cleaning rules and provide guidance for guests. Fingers crossed.

Good morning. The sun is shining at last. A note to our friends and first viewers. Sadly, we are preparing for a new phase in our lives. We have sold our house & barn and had an offer accepted on a new house; both are SSTC’s which is never a guarantee. However, we have withdraw from the booking site and would like to thank West Wales Holiday Cottages for their kindness and support. Wow.......over 70 enquiries in the last three days and a number of bookings up to the end of March. My apologies to those needing to book later in the year but personal circumstances restrict us to bookings three months ahead. One person asked about more pictures of the garden. Good morning on a beautiful crisps sunny day. There will be some northern lights pics later taken by Holly last night from the rise just above the barn. We are experiencing a huge response from the FB ad and I am having difficulty keeping up with the enquiries. If you have not heard from me please shout. There are still dates available before the end of March. April availability will be released at the end of this month.

Gwelfryn Bach is a barn conversion for two people plus dogs near Aberaeron. We have opened the calendar for January 2025 onwards. You can book between January to March especially for long weekends. April bookings will be available at the end of January and for May at the end of February and so on. Prices continue to stay at bargain prices but the longer you stay the cheaper the nightly rate.

Just catching up on November. The old railway line into Aberaeron is beautiful at this time of year; just five minutes drive. The river has been swollen for some time. Caught these two pinching the peanuts. When the Barn is not being used the wildlife moves into the main garden.

Oops a few IT issues trying to write this. As we move into the quiet half of the year life with the barn is slowing down. The required number of nights for the year has been reached mainly through the support of our regular guests. We have a two week break in the bookings from today which gives us an opportunity to reward our followers and loyal guests whilst there is still a chance of some sunshine. If you know of friends or colleagues who are struggling and need a break then let them know we are here. So many guests remark on the therapeutic effect of watching the many birds in the garden. Thank you.

Hello to people viewing the page for the first time. Loads of hits in the last week. This page is used to show what is going on. If you want specific details about the barn go to “Westwalesholidaycottages/Gwelfryn Bach” Bookings can be made on the website or directly through us. Life here is slow and quiet. Plenty of places to explore or just sit and watch the birds. As the high season comes to an end there are days available between October 14 - 26th and after Nov 8th. We are booked for the Christmas week. In the quiet season we spend time painting, repairing and feeding the birds. If you are interested in booking the barn in the next few months then contact us.

A very big thank you to our regular guests who been so supportive in achieving the minimum 182 nights booked per year as demanded by the Welsh Government. It is a move to target second homes but there are many of us who only have planning permission to let and cannot sell the property as a second home. Sadly, there are many great places and lovely people who are not going to make the target.

Dates available: August 8 - 11th, October ( except 5 - 12th ), November 9 - Dec 20th.

An update on Alfie. He is growing rapidly, eats loads, sleeps and plays........ what a life. Identity crisis..... is he a human, horse or cow; not seen sheep yet. He is quickly learning what he can and cannot do around the horses. Second jab this week and able to socialise from next Wednesday. Daily walks away from the house will start soon.

Pt 2: A number of you may not be aware that we lost our dog Maddy to meningitis a few weeks ago. Many of you met her on your visits. Occasionally in life we cross paths with a person or animal that was extra special. Maddy was beautiful in mind and body. It started last year and we were advised it could return in 30% of cases. We hoped she was in the 30% that fully recover. Our gratitude to Downes Vets, Aberystwyth for their efforts to ease her pain.

Time to catch up. The first half of the year has been up and down. In this post we wanted to show you how the garden has developed. February into March saw the dafs and snowdrops. In April and May the primroses took over along with the wild poppies. In May the big old apple tree was in full bloom. The trees and hedges were slow to start this year but they suddenly burst into life in late April and the garden is now very green. It looks amazing. Squirrels, kites, woodpeckers, doves, crows, magpies ........ and so many types of small birds about.
