Warmest wishes to the Moorland School family for a safe and delightful Christmas break! 🎄 The inaugural term has been marked by consistent hard work, resulting in well-deserved rewards. The school is now closed for the Christmas break, but we will see you all on 8th January to welcome you back for the new term. We look ahead with great enthusiasm, we anticipate a productive and prosperous 2024! 🎉
"At the end of a busy Autumn term at Moorland, we have much to celebrate and much to be thankful for. In the classroom, on the sports field, in the ballet studio, and in the boarding house, your children have been working hard, playing well, performing beautifully, and supporting each other. After
transitioning to a new year group, students have settled in extremely well and of course the excellent quality, focused learning has taken place every day.
On behalf of the whole school team, we’d like to thank our students the hard work, dedication and commitment.
I hope that you all have a well-earned restful and enjoyable break, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."
- Deborah Frost, Headteacher

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎄
Years 2 and 3 have made some beautiful star decorations and helped to decorate the tree in our Junior School
A truly magical afternoon at Thornton Hall Country Park
We've been busy in the kitchen with Mrs Claus baking Christmas cookies, took a ride on the snowmobile, met the reindeer followed by a very special visit to Father Christmas' grotto 🎅
CHEMIST-TREE 🎄🧪
We're very impressed with Dr Bootle's take on decking the halls this year
A place to grow ✨
Join us this Saturday to discover the Moorland difference. Meet our students and teachers, explore the school and all we have to offer for your child.
Moorland is more than just a school, we're a family. A family of children from our local area and 17 countries across the globe. A family who learn, live, play and grow together.
Every day we help children reach their full potential and we believe that every child has a right to high standard education, which is why we are academically non-selective. We welcome students to the Moorland family based on their behaviour and moral attributes.
Call Carl Lightbown, Admissions Manager on 01200 423 833, email [email protected] or click https://mpschool.me/opendays to register your visit.
We can't wait to meet you.
Moorland stands with the nation and commonwealth to pay respect for Her Majesty The Queen's State Funeral today. Our union flag flies at half mast until tomorrow and our boarders are commemorating the life of the Queen as they watch the funeral.
Outdoor learning 🌳 Our year 5 and 6 students have been out on the school grounds in the R&D stage of a project to create their very own promotional leaflet for the school. Learning the skills of persuasive writing and teamwork within the scope of marketing and advertising, this outdoor learning activity has been enjoyed by all!
The days leading up to the funeral of the Queen could be unsettling and confusing for children. The media has shifted, sombre music has played on the radio over the weekend and all this is happening whilst children are starting and returning to school. How can we help children process this? Parenting Author and Child Psychologist Sarah Ockwell-Smith, said: ‘I'm a firm believer in not shielding children from death. If we don't talk to them about it somebody else will; such as a friend in the school playground, or they will overhear a conversation. When somebody dies, whether in our close family or someone who played an important role in our life - like the Queen, we should take time to sit and explain to our children what has happened, using simple, child friendly language. It's natural for children to ask questions, try to answer them honestly and accurately, however uncomfortable or inappropriate they may feel. It's also natural for them to worry about you, or others close, dying, here try to reassure them, but again be honest. It’s always good to have a few children's books to hand to help you to explain death to younger children. Children may like to process their feelings and remember the Queen by drawing pictures, or writing about her (this is akin to us as adults writing in a book of condolence).’
Seeing our students as an extension of our own family is paramount in the levels of success and happiness we deliver. We actively encourage warmth and respect for all and ensure that we celebrate success at every opportunity. We strive to support cultural differences whilst maintaining a traditional approach to education.

🏃Sports Day 🏃
Only a few days into our summer break and we are already missing the sound of the students around school. Throughout summer, we will be sharing memories of the past year with you and reminiscing on the good times!
Here is a snippet of what we got up to on Sports Day last week! Such fun! 😀
World Poetry Day
Whilst in Lockdown, one of our students, Connor, wrote a fantastic poem about the many online order deliveries his family received whilst the shops have been closed.
As we loved it so much and in honour of World Poetry Day, we asked Connor if he would perform the poem for us and he kindly agreed.
Thank you Connor! A poet in the making!

So long ago, we ordered online,
I waited patiently but started to whine.
The dog is barking, we know who it is.
Everybody is waiting to answer the quiz.
Opening the door, the parcel's on the floor,
the postman is two meters back in case he is under attack.
I wish it's for me and I am eager to see-
Whose will it be out of us three?
After a wait we open the bait,
Is is a ball? Is it a whisk? Or is it a brake disc?
Then inside the box, all alone,
is one smelly dog bone.
Sharing Stories 📖
We love that Miss Walberg shared her favourite book with us. Wonder by R.J Palacio.

'We're going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen is a classic. We think Amelie reads it beautifully!

A big thank you to Edward, who shared his favourite story with us. We love hearing you read!
World Book Day 📚
Reading and sharing stories can bring so much joy. Being able to share stories in our classrooms has been denied to us over the past few months. Today we come together to celebrate our favourite literature and spread some happiness through the stories we love.
Thanks to all the teachers and students who came together to share virtual stories.
