Most of you that have stayed at Penny bun Cottage as our guests, will know how interested Charlie and myself are in the nature and wild life around us, whilst my interests and knowledge lay in the flora and fauna, Charlie is dedicated to his passion and love of the wild life that surrounds us, in this beautiful countryside we are lucky enough to call home.
It was Monday evening when we received a call from my daughter and her partner who had come accros a Buzzard laying at the side of the road with little signs of movement, another kind moterist stopped to help him but it was agreed that it would be best for the buzzard to come back to our smallholding to asses
his injuries and be kept safe for the night at least.
When he arrived we could only assume he had been hit by a car, he was unaware of his surroundings and had not complained or showed any fear of being wrapped in a coat on a car journey. I think its safe to say he was stunned and in shock and was unable to stand, Charlie found a suitable place for him at our stables and caged him for the night, with water and left him to be quiet and settled.
There was no obvious signs of injury, although he did appear to be blind in one eye.
Charlie checked him thrugh the night and he seemed to be improving, he was now standing and moving around.
The next day we moved him into our new chicken run and added logs, perches, food and water.
he has eaten, drank and is flying around quite happy in his surroundings.
Charlie hand fed him at first and he comes to Charlies hand showing no aggression or fear at all.
We have taken advise on his blind eye and how this will affect his ability to survive in the wild, the ideal outcome may be. that Charlie can train him to come back to us for food if need be, once we release him.
He is a beautiful bird and we are privileged to be able to take care of him.
We have named him Buzz Lightyear!😀
