One hundred & eighty! 🎯🎯🎯

We recently chalked our 180th 5-star Google review. Thank you Molly Jay, who visited Long Barn this week with her artists friends.

On their last morning with us, Paul took them to see the new born lambs in the neighbouring field and then feed the pigs

Thank you Molly, Hannah, Lucy, Cherry, Hanna and all our wonderful guests for trusting us to make your holiday in Herefordshire unforgettable.

We’re always happy to show you the best local walks, book you into the best local pubs, or just leave you be for a peaceful weekend of rest and relaxation in nature.

A new year is like a blank canvas – and it’s up to you to decide how you want to paint it. 🎨

The weather here is fresh and foggy …. no pretty pics of our cottages today. Instead a behind the scenes on winter maintenance and upgrades.

🖌 Long Barn has had a lick of white paint throughout

🏠 Hop Pickers Cottage in the upstairs bedrooms.

😲 Meanwhile in Welsh Cottage, the hard wood flooring is in, new panelling is up, and we’re eagerly awaiting the new kitchen space and wooden shelving, with its built-in dishwasher.

We’re super grateful for excellent local tradesfolk - the brilliant Bartek, Herefordshire Handyman, Steve, and Matthew the Sparks

We’re looking forward to sharing the full update and new pics soon and even more excited to get feedback on the new cosy vibes when Cam and Sarah return for their 10th stay next weekend.

Make yourself cosy on the sofa and secure your preferred space in nature, before someone else beats you to it

Celebrating a Birthday 🏡🍂… book a Cosy Cottage Weekend in The Notswolds!

This last weekend two of our cottages provided the cosy home-from-homes to guests celebrating a special occasion. Shiv booked Mishal a surprise break from London and loved chilling by the log-burner. Meanwhile Millie and Elliott treated their Labrador, Willow, to her first birthday with a weekend of waggy-tailed adventures, exploring homey pubs like the 📍 Butchers Arms in Woolhope and countryside walks and swims in the Wye.

Another guest wrote “forget villages like Bourton-on-the-Water, Upper & Lower Slaughter, this place is so much better”,

Have you been to the Notswolds before? Head to link in our bio to book your winter break and chilling the next holiday stay 🔗

Happy New Year!

What a year it’s been at White House Cottages – 402 bookings, 112 wagging tails, and 2,353 guest nights spent in nature, we’re feeling grateful for every memory made.

From giving HopStore a make-over, building our Woof-Wash station and installing a new EV charger, it’s been an adventure we couldn’t have done without you.

Many of you hiked the Malvern Hills and Wye Valley, cycled the slow lanes on e-bikes and our tandem, stargazed the dark skies, and some even made friends feeding pigs along the way.

This month, Hop Pickers and Welsh cottages are having a spruce up, and we’re adding secure, enclosed area for dog staying at HopStore and Long Barn.

Here’s to even more nature, escapes, and unforgettable moments in 2025!

We heard a rumour that Pig Hotels are all the rage right now 🧐 And by that, we obviously mean accommodation that features pigs 🐷. Well, conveniently, we’ve just had our 150th Google review and many of them feature pigs (we haven’t crunched the numbers, but it’s a lot - and we’re not telling porkies).

Why?

These sociable, down-to-earth animals live just up the lane at our neighbours’, at Dragon Orchard, and love their dinner time. When time allows, Paul often offers to take guests on local walks — and, as part of the experience, showcases our connection the countryside and local farming community, including a meet-and-greet with Carlos, Jose, Kiri and Richie.

So, taking inspiration from a (slightly more famous) hotel brand who recently opened in the Cotswolds: “escaping the city, catching up with friends, back to nature. Whatever the reason, there’s a PIG waiting for you” … to feed (and not eat), obviously.

Did we mention that you can also wake up to birdsong, and the distant bleating of the local flock? If you like the sound of that, then book in to stay at one of our five self-catering holiday cottages - link in our bio 👆

We LOVE this time of year in Herefordshire because:

🍏 There’s a cidery smell in the air. Walking through the ancient Putley orchards, you’ll stumble across swathes of apple trees shedding their fruity bounties. Not long now until harvest season…

🫐 The bramble bushes are abundant with delicious blackberries (there was no blackberry emoji, forgive us!). If you’re out walking near the cottages, grant yourself some stoppage time for taste-testing!

The nights are getting longer and cooler, but there’s still plenty of summer left… let’s get ready to c-rumble! (Paul insisted on leaving that pun in 🙄)

We’re feeling very grateful to have had such lovely guests (and equally lovely reviews!) in recent weeks.

Thanks to everyone who leaves a review — it really helps us out, and reminds us of why we go that extra mile.

We’re up to 143 reviews on Google (and a 5⭐️) average. Thank you 🥹

📅 We have limited availability remaining for September and October, so book in soon if you’re starting to plan your next trip. Can’t wait to welcome you back!

As we approach 2 years at the helm of White House Cottages, we’ve just hit a momentous milestone 🙌

It’s a tough market out there, and particularly with this lovely ‘Summer’ weather. So, we’re more than a little chuffed and a bit surprised to have completed our 500th booking 🎉

We’ve had to learn everything about the running this hospitality business, and there’s no denying it is hard work. We get to wear many hats; we’re housekeepers, bookkeepers, hosts, interior designers (!) and much more. We’ve recently stepped up our game by changing all the linen, buying in new fluffy towels, making designer cushions, hand-crafting lampshades etc. Angela’s standards are extremely high, as is her attention to detail 👀

Everything has to be perfect…. she spends time every day picking fresh flowers from our garden, baking lemon drizzle muffins, cookies, or brownies for our lovely guests.

Maintaining our cherished 5 star Google rating and 4.97 Airbnb hosting is the result of meticulous perfectionism.

Another full and busy week here at White House Cottages, and we’ve had so many guests returning for their third, fourth or even ninth (!) visits. We absolutely love it. Thank you, thank you! 🥰🙏

For the past few months, we’ve been encouraging our guests to reduce their waste to landfill by separating their rubbish for recycling, and using our composting caddies and biodegradable green bags. 🌱

Skip to several months later, and our Hot Bin is now full of our guests’ vegetable peelings, fruit waste, coffee grounds and teabags 🫶

The Hot Bin has been doing its job with superfast and smell-free composting, and we’ll be spreading it onto the soil in the cottage garden tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled (👀) to see what we grow from it!

This is just one of the many steps we’re taking to minimise our impact on the environment 🌟

Want to try your hand at a new skill? Why not make 2024 a year of learning and discovery. 💡

To really ‘immerse’ yourself fully in a destination, you might want to look for an authentic local experience - but it can often be hard to find the best ones.

At White House Cottages, we’ve taken the time to hand-pick the best 17+ courses, classes and workshops to explore when you book a stay with us.

1. Basket weaving at the magnificent Hellens Manor ()
2. Forest Bathing in the Forest of Dean
3. Hedgerow Medicine at Castle Orchard, Putley
4. Potters Wheel at Eastnor Pottery ()
5. Wild Food foraging in Eastnor Deer Park and Ross-on-Wye ()

These are come highly recommended; we have either tried them ourselves or had feedback from guests who recently stayed with us and loved it.

Take a look at our digital guidebook for these and a dozen more ideas for a mindful escape, filled with nature, wellness and delicious local food and drink.

December afternoon walk. The Herefordshire trail from our doorstep up to thousand year-old, magical Ast Wood. Our five cosy country cottages are reopening this week after some winter maintenance. While things are quieter, there are plenty of festive markets and the warm glow of mulled apple juice or cider.

If you’re an avid fan of Netflix’s S*x Education, you might recognise this iconic house.

🏡Nestled on the banks of the Wye River in Symonds Yat sits Otis and Jean Milburn’s beautiful chalet.

📍It’s just a short drive from our Herefordshire cottages, and the perfect spot to savour a warming pub lunch and cold pint, kayak, or simply explore some of the spectacular filming locations nearby.

🏞️There’s a reason that Netflix handpicked the area for its breathtaking nature shots. With cycle routes, hiking trails and dog walks galore, you can step into the landscape of S*x Education yourself.

🍂🍁As the leaves return the land to a hazy orange glow, a calm sense of serenity has settled over Herefordshire again. We have availability and a book two nights-and-stay-for-three offer this weekend, 29 Sept to 2 Oct.

To book now, visit the link in our bio 👆

Our cottages are dog-friendly, have smart TV's, and gas-fired log-burners to cosy up at night.

All the warmth of the summer sun can now be found in the hedgerow.

The county lanes around Herefordshire are simply heavy with ripe blackberries, rosehips and sloes.

Whether you're walking or taking a ride there's nothing like a free graze on a few berries, to sweeten the time spent outside in nature.

If you're itching to get out into the countryside this autumn why not book your stay with us.

You know when Herefordshire is getting down to business when the apple harvest is almost ready.

In the next few weeks all the gorgeous apples will be gathered to start making that fine beverage that our region holds dear. We're referring to cider of course!!

But before we gather the windfalls and harvest the ripe red beauties we get to enjoy their bounty by walking through the orchards.

If you'd like to escape to a little corner of our rural bliss this autumn why not head over to our website.
